Why would the Reds take on any of Griffey's salary.

To get the best return they could. The reason they would trade him isn't primarily for monetary reasons.

Well if that's the best return the Reds can get, then I'd hold onto him.

I heard it earlier this morning. Jeez

But you said "did anyone just hear" on the Score, implying that you heard it a few minutes ago. Which is it?

Calm down a bit. No need to grill anyone over semantics. It was clearly posted as a rumor.

Nothing said about Griffey in the latest SCORE update. All they said was the Cubs were looking to add a pitcher and that Hendry wasn't trading Pie.

Bench Player making rumors?

He didnt "make" a rumor. He reported what he heard on the SCORE, chill.

What he CLAIMS to have heard on the Score.

I don't believe him.

You guys can be some real jerks on deadline-day.

He isn't coming here making any ridiculous assertions about a trade actually happening. He said he HEARD something on the score about the cubs POSSIBLY making an offer to the reds and he titled the thread appropriately. No reason to be jumping down his throat. christ.

It doesn't sound realistic though.

Just yesterday both Hendry and Lou denied they were shopping Pie.

Nor will the Reds make a deal, they're content to hang on to Griffey and Dunn rather than use them to gain some pitching. So, next season, they'll continue to score tons of runs while allowing tons of runs on the way to a 5th or 6th place finish.

-670 is reporting Hendry is working hard during the hours before deadline?...

-Still can do stuff with waivers after the deadline. (Duh)

Then why did you post "did anyone just hear....." I have been listening for around an hour and haven't heard a thing. Just had an interview with Hendry, said he is "working the phones" no mention of any specific players by Hendry or the Jesse Rogers, the update guy.

Well...I put the "RUMOR" bit in the title. Not him.

Also said that the Cubs might be looking for another bat in the OF...but specific mention of Griffey at all.

Lock this up.

I've been listening to the Score all morning and there has been nothing of the sort reported.

In fact, all of their reports and talks go out of their way to say that Pie is not available and that if the Cubs make a trade it will be for a supporting player.

I call BS.

He said he just heard it and then he changed his mind.

He just doesn't sound truthful IMO.

I would think this would be a big story.

You don't think they should trade him for Murton, Pie, and Gallagher?

Some posters are raising legitimate doubts that the OP heard correctly or even heard anything at all. I don't think anyone is jumping down his throat. And your own post came off as the most caustic in the thread thus far, IMO

How am I being a jerk? I've been listening to the Score since 9:30. There has been no such report. The most recent update made no mention of any such deal. If a deal like this had been discussed on the air to the detail that he's suggesting, there would for damn sure be a mention of it on the update.

He made it up. It's pretty obvious. Christ.

Yeah, I don't think there's going to be too many offers for Junior better than that one.

Ok, I'm gonna lock this until there's something else heard. No sense in everyone arguing over the merits of a possible radio report. If someone hears something else worth posting on the subject, let me (or another mod) know, and we'll unlock it.
