I just find it impossible to believe Hendry could be that stupid. His job is on the line, and if he stands pat, this team could easily miss the playoffs.

What do you think they are going to say. Of course they are happy with what they have, they are surging and on the verge of taking over the top spot in the central. Just because they are happy with what they have doesn't mean they aren't open to making the team better. That is just GM speak so as not to offend any player that might eventually be dealt, and to cover their own $*%*( if something doesn't get done.

If Hendry doesnt make any mvoes he'll get ripped. If he makes a move or two, some will rip him for either the player he obtains, or what he had to give up.

So no matter what happens he'll get some criticism.

I don't see a major move on the horizon. I don't think the Reds can afford to trade Griffey and Dunn isn't worth what they are asking for.

Yeah I'm not surprised. I figured they probably would do this. They probably think that Wood coming back is akin to a trade. And frankly aside from the Griffey/Dunn pipe dreams, there was a lot that was exciting out there.

It's also Bruce Levine. He hasn't been right about trade rumors or Chicago baseball moves since he reported Brock for Broglio in 2002 (had to wait for official confirmation).

who knows, maybe Hendry is willing to stand pat, but the last thing we need is reports that Hendry is desperate. take this report with a grain of salt.

GMs are alot like agents. creating smokescreens is a tool of negotiation. standing pat is not exactly Hendry's MO in seasons where the Cubs are competitive.

i couldn't help but think hendry might stay put when the cubs were putting up runs saturday and sunday. just based on some of the things he said about wanting to see what the club would do offensively before he decides.

having said that, i don't really put much into this "report". obviously hendry is going to say he's happy, and Levine is probaby just speculating beyond that.

I just think this year is different from years past. Pretty much the only position that could use an upgrade is RF. Some believe that Murton and Floyd could handle that together. Then you have DeRosa who is playing some there as well. C is another questionable position, but they just acquired Kendall and I don't see them making another move in that area. There aren't a whole lot of options at C to obtain anyway.

The rotation has been good. Marquis and Hill have been shaky at times, Marquis more than Hill. Marshall has been surprisingly consistent. Lilly and Zambrano have been great.

The bullpen has finally stabilized. Wood is on the verge of coming back (did I just type that?).

I just don't see many holes.

You are nuts.

The Cubs are getting bottom of the NL barrel production from SS, CF, C and RF, and you think there are no holes?

We are below-average offensively at CF, RF, SS, and C. One of those positions, at minimum, needs to be upgraded.

This team is too flawed to continue this pace. We need to make some sort of offensive upgrade.

I keep telling myself that and they keep putting up runs. If DLEE gets his HR stroke back I think they have enough to win the Div. At least I keep telling myself that...

Where? Every team is flawed in some way or another. I just odn't think they are any impact players out there that could create a worthwhile offensive upgrade.

SS, C and RF remain problems. There are holes on this team. We get no SLG from RF, no anything from C and I'm not sold on a middle IF of Theriot and Fontenot.

I don't know about 'easily'. They might miss the playoffs, but on paper, even with standing pat, they are now favored to make the playoffs.

Given the remaining schedule, this current team should have no problem with a .600 win percentage the rest of the way (finishing around 89 or 90 wins). Personally, I think the reason to make a deal is to increase the success of the team in the playoffs more than to get there. They should get there already.

Your an idiot

I just wanted to call you a name too.

So who are you suggesting they get? What would you give up? Its much harder to make a good match than just point out the places where the Cubs need an upgrade.
