From Rotoworld: Astros acquired infielder Ty Wigginton from the Devil Rays for RHP Dan Wheeler.

The Astros could have gotten a couple of legitimate prospects for Wheeler, Instead, they moved him for yet another infielder who probably shouldn't be a starter for a contender. Between Adam Everett, Craig Biggio, Morgan Enbserg, Mark Loretta, Mike Lamb, Chris Burke and Eric Bruntlett, they now have seven infielders that can all be useful parts but possess clear deficiencies. The obvious problems with Wigginton are that he doesn't hit righties nearly as well as lefties and he's no asset defensively at second or third. As a part-time player, he can be quite useful, and if the Astros choose to platoon him with free-agent-to-be Mike Lamb next year, they'll get quite a bit of production out of third base. Still, they really should have gone in a different direction. Jul. 28 - 6:52 pm et

Yeah, this was mentioned in the Murton thread, but I'll leave this one alive for discussion of this trade since I went and locked the Murton one.

What are the Astros doing? Why would they make this move?

God only knows. Maybe they'll flip him.

I think that they think they will be able to get back in this thing. They have the last few years anyways.

Well they'll need much more than Wigg.

I can't express how much I agree with you. Simply amazing, and almost worth the trip to Houston alone.

I once saw a bunch of Cubs in there a night after a game. Of course, I wasn't paying any attention to the Cubs players at the time.

That was probably the first time you've seen Cubs players and not gone up to ask for an autograph.

I didn't give a damn about an autograph.

Speculation is that this trade means Ensberg is on his way out...maybe this week.

Link.

The arrival of Wigginton means third baseman Morgan Ensberg's days with the Astros are probably nearing an end. Ensberg, Mike Lamb and Mark Loretta have split the starts at third this year, and the Astros will likely need to move one of those players before Tuesday's trade deadline.

``It's very similar to what happened last year,'' said Ensberg, referring to last July's trade for Devil Rays third baseman Aubrey Huff. ``It's familiar ground. Obviously, Ty has done a great job this year and has played well. If they're going to have him play third, then I'd only assume I'd be heading out somewhere.''

Or asked if you could take a picture of Addison sitting in their laps.

Knowing Treasures the way I know Treasures, I am 100% sure their laps were already preoccupied.

I wonder if Ensberg can play 2B or RF? I always loved him, maybe it doesn't make sense for the Cubs but I have a man crush ...

Even when he was good, I thought he was one of the most overrated players in all of baseball. Now he is not even rated.

BBTN just confired Ensberg was DFA.
