IIRC, he is a former cub. having a nice year, would be a good upgrade over Eyre. Worth giving up a single A player for.

That'd be a fine idea and all...but what do the Cubs do with Eyre if they acquire Mahay?

This article says the Cubs may be willing to include Pie in the trade?? ](*,)

"The Cubs have interest in Laird and Rangers relievers, and might include center field prospect Felix Pie to get that."

Please tell me Hendry is not that dumb.

I refuse to believe Hendry is that dumb. I don't think there's any way he trades Pie for anything less than a big-named player.

New. York. Rag.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever trust any rumor that comes out of a NY newspaper. They're nothing more than gossip mills for the criminally insane who happen to follow sports.

There's no way Hendry is dumb enough to trade Pie for Laird, especially since the bullpen isn't really a need. Either somebody's enjoying a belated April Fool's joke or there's more to the trade than just Laird. If it's Pie for Tex and Laird then we'll talk. :D

Hey, maybe this is the new Cub philosophy - trade decent minor league prospects, let another team develop them into real players and then overpay to trade for them back!!

Well, if we can get him for a low prospect, and it means the end of Eyre, I'm all for it. He's put up good numbers this year. Here are his splits:

vs. Righties: .230/.367/.378/.745 7 R 17 H 17 K/16 BB 1 HR

vs. Lefties: .213/.269/.361/.630 10 R 13 H 15 K/4 BB 2 HR

If he replaces Eyre and his .947/.983 OPS allowed vs. lefties/righties respectably, he's a significant upgrade. Like I said, a low level prospect and I'm all for it.

Plus, he was picked up this year by club option for only $1.2M, that leaves (if my math is correct), just around 400K left on his contract this year, and he's an FA after the year is over. Not too bad of a deal.

Mahay > Eyre, absolutely.

Mahay > Ohman, probably.

Mahay > Rapada? Not sure.

If the Cubs do not like Soto for whatever reason, how about a trade of Ronny Cedeno and Soto for Laird and Mahay? Frankly, I'd do that trade and I think it is fair value for both teams. Not exactly a difference-maker trade, but could be something useful.

Why get Laird? Don't we have two Laird's in Kendall and Hill?

I think that would be a terrible trade for the Cubs.

I agree. Cedeno might end up being an everyday SS and Soto at least a backup C for a backup C and a relief pitcher which isn't a position of need for the Cubs. Doesn't make sense.

Some of you are forgetting that most of what is written this time of year is pure unadulterated speculation without basis in fact.

Pie is going nowhere, unless someone named A. Rodriguez or M. Cabrera is coming back.

im bout sick of hearing about all these catchers the cubs want....laird is not the answer, id rather go with hill, kendall, and hank white.....enough tinkering with catcher....the cubs need a power bat and a right handed starter i think before they need a relief pitcher and bad catcher

Jimbo would not deal Pie in a trade for Laird and Mahay. That much is clear. But would he deal Pie for Gagne or Gagne + spare parts?

I don't think there's any way that Pie is moved in a deal for Laird + Mahay.

Pie might be moved, but it will be in a move that brings in a Griffey-caliber player.

There's not many of those out there, so I don't see Pie being moved.
