When you've got GMs like Hendry and Krivskey involved, it might.

Our GM just said last week that he'd look to see how the offense does the upcoming week to see if we need to add a bat or not. I wouldn't put it past Hendry to bring up Murton to showcase him for a couple days.

Perhaps I should start a don't trade Murt to the Reds campaign.

If it's for Griffey or Dunn then your campaign would be foolish.

Fixed, Dunn K's way too much and has godawful defense for a .300 hitter which Murton is anyway. Last I heard Murt's defense is growing strong.

He still has an OBP of .371 this year.

He walks a ton and he hits a lot of bombs. He fills a weakness that we have in the OF. And his offensive production does make up for his shoddy defense in LF.

It's funny because you genuinely think we'd be the losers of a Murton-Dunn swap.

While he could be showcasing him, I wouldn't put much stock in anything a GM says publicly at this time of year.

These little one-off cheap shots are getting annoying. Its not just you who is doing it, but it breaks-up an otherwise intelligent discussion.

Is it a cheap shot or a retort based on quotes an actions by our current GM?

Uh, it wasn't meant to be a cheap shot. When we're dealing with people like Hendry and Krivskey, they might think that a few days is sufficient enough to showcase a player.

Fair point. I guess it depends on you p-o-v. It seems like a generalization to me. I think Hendry has done some good things recently and to directly compare him to Krivskey is both irrational and unfair.

I dunno, I think pointing out Krivsky's ineptitude is worthwhile in this discussion. I think lumping Hendry with him is a bit unfair and on the cheap side, but not outrageous considering the opinions of Hendry on this board.

That's sort of my point. Hendry is responsible for a bunch of terrible moves, but he has made good ones also. What has Krivskey ever done?

put together a team that, in 2006, finished 14 games ahead of hendry's team with half the payroll?

That strikes me as more blind-luck than testament to his ability to oversee a major league ballclub.

Well it seems that the slam was directly about not understanding sample size. Krivsky has shown that in regards to his relief pitcher infatuation and Hendry has shown that as I mentioned above. Whether you like or dislike those two GMs, it seems like an extremely fair point to make that both don't understand sample sizes.

and that's how i feel about hendry's few successes.

it amazes me that a fanbase that has suffered through so much losing has had such patience with hendry. if he were in any other big market city he would have been fired before he could have even put together that turd of a team in 2006.

So he should have been fired after putting together a pretty good team in '04 and a semi-decent one in '05?

I'm definitely not a Hendry fan, but your point of view seems a bit extreme.

four games under .500 for a team w/ a $95 payroll isn't semi-decent. it's terrible.

Granted, however, firing a guy after one bad season coming off a good season seems short-sighted.

Should Jockety be fired for the season the Cardinals have crapped out this year?

Your point makes much more sense if you say 'after' '06 rather than 'before'.
