Hopefully the Cubs can put the awful showings of the last two days behind them and actually show up to play tomorrow. If not, we could be in very bad shape.

Well, the Brewers have a DH tomorrow so it is possible to lose only 0.5 game if we lose again tomorrow. Then again we could also lose or gain 1.5...

Jim is blowing games by holding off on a move. Go get Dunn or Griffey already. This shouldn't be that hard,

Has anyone else made any big moves yet?

Teams are still leveraging.

Not that I have faith in Hendry, but I don't expect to see big stuff start going down for another day or two.

Do you get punished for being the first? These games we are blowing mean a lot as much as the ones in late september.

No you don't get punished for being first, but you might have to drastically overpay. The teams that have what other teams want are going to wait till the eleventh hour for the best offer. Aside from Jedi mind tricks (which I am certain Hendry does not know), I fail to see how he can speed the process up without overpaying.

The pitchers the Cards having going tomorrow don't inspire much confidence.

I think the Reds are ready to start moving guys. Afterall the have to rush up Jay Bruce and not appreciate him like they did Dunn and Kearns.

Remember when Lou said he was going to have a 2 week look at Fox? 1AB guess he'd seen enough.

He hit last night, and attempted to play first base.

If we keep this at 3, I hope we see Fontenot and Murton the first two of the inning.

Murton should be playing anyway. Floyd has a .667 OPS for July. We have to have more production from our outfield than that.

Just for the heck of it, why not have the I-Cubs face Cincy tomorrow?

How could it get any worse?

We could be the Reds. Or the Astros. Or the Pirates. Or the Cardinals.

Reds = WS Champ in 1990

Astros = NL Champ in 2005

Pirates = WS Champ in 1979

Cardinals = WS Champ in 2006

They are heading the same places as us, but at least they have those accomplishments to look back on during their travels to nowheresville

I know you are perennially pessimistic, but to say the Reds and Pirates are going the same place as the Cubs is patently absurd.

I know :)

I agree the problem is the two dummies in center and right.

I honestly believe in my heart we won't make a significant move and we'll be 500 or below for the rest of the year.

Even if we don't make a move, we won't be below .500 the rest of the year. We may not make the playoffs, but we won't be that bad.

Keep in mind the recent run was accomplished without much input from Lee and Soriano. Theriot and Fontenot won't carry the team for the rest of the season, but I refuse to believe that Derrek and Alonso will continue to play as they have over the past month.

Thanks for putting things in perspective for me. It could be a lot worse than the Cubs playing pathetic baseball.
