Here's waht kills me, I said that a while ago but everyone was in love with Soriano in the leadoff spot because they liked to lead the game off with a homerun.

Yeah, I don't think anyone said that.

someone probably did - hardly means everyone agrees.

Kendall's numbers as a Cub are right in line with his career numbers.

As a Cub: .286/.385/.393/.778

Career: .298/.375/.395/.770

Just sayin'.

Although you'd expect his numbers at age 33 to be somewhat below his career numbers, especially considering that he is a catcher.

Hopefully he continues to be a second half player and puts up decent numbers for the Cubs.

I was one who thought that his numbers as a Cub would be much closer to his career line than his line in the AL, but I can't say I thought they'd be this good.

Agreed, when I defended the move a couple weeks ago I thought he had the chance to be adequate....right now he's pretty good.

Good deal. Let's hope he can continue that through August and September, and hopefully into the playoffs.

Yeah, let's totally ignore he didn't throw out his 21st base stealer. The guy is doing alright with the bat and it's cool, but I'm sick of other teams basically running at will on us...some of it is the pitchers, but a lot of it is our catchers.

please, he made a great throw tonight, the guy was barely safe.

He still wasn't out!

Look, I was frustrated with Barrett when he had trouble doing the same, I don't see why some of us shouldn't be frustrated with Kendall in that area, especially since his bat isn't nearly as good as Barrett's was for about 3 seasons.

The Rockies announcer mentioned that although the throw was dead on, it took about 2.11 seconds to reach 2B. The average throw of a catcher from home plate to 2B is 2.0_ (can't remember the hundredth place value). It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but clearly Kendall throws slower than average. The result is that teams run at will against us.

(For the record, I dig the offense the dude is providing!)

I wouldn't be against re-signing him to a one-year deal if he'd agree to one. Especially if the idea is for him to be insurance in case Soto doesn't work out.

Where does Henry Blanco fit into this equation?

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer Soto+Kendall too, but nevertheless Blanco has to be accounted for somehow.

Out of sight, out of mind. I forgot Blanco still has a year remaining on his contract.

yep, i'd much rather have barrett's average(at very best) arm over what Kendall is putting up number's wise at the plate. Give me a freaking break! Barrett had a few good years batting and he has better power than Kendall, OK we can all agree witht that. But look at his numbers THIS YEAR. Don't try to tell me that because barrett could throw out an occasional runner that this team would be better with him behind the plate. His 41 OPS+(since traded) begs to differ.

Actually, yes, almost everyone said it. B/c I was on MurtonFan's side of the argument. And that's usually a pretty lonely place to be...:D

I'm beginning to think there might be crow to be eaten after this is all said and done...This is starting to look like a solid deal by Hendry. I know, I know, small sample...

naw. instead, many will continue their sudden change of heart about the value of defense out of a catcher. easier to continue the bitch parade that way.

Kendall doesn't have to throw out another baserunner ever again if he's going to hit like this. The most I hope for defensively out of him is that he performs somewhere close to average in terms of stopping wild pitches and not allowing passed balls.

Barrett was placed on the 15-day DL with "concussion like symptons".

There is a joke in there somewhere.

Keeps getting worse for Barrett. Man, this is a terrible year for the guy.
