i think we can ALL agree that there was zero reason to sign cliff floyd. none.

 

I wanted him on the bench as a late-inning LH bat. This starting everyday thing was never what I dreamed he would be used for. Lou should know better than to try to keep a cripple in the lineup everyday, then lament that he isn't hitting homers. That's ridiculous.

The Cubs themselves could make all of this easier by not chosing again and again the mediocre veteran over the talented but unproven rookie. Last night for example, why did they put Floyd in against a LH starter when they have Fox on the bench? If they brought Fox up for a look see when would they find a better opportunity to see what he could do?

It occured to me that he may, but I have no way of knowing, and this nonsense is happening all over the board. Say something good about Cedeno and you think he's Honus Wagner, say something good about Murton and your licking his backside and assuming he's next in line for the Hall. It's freaking annoying.

What bugs me most about Murton's shoddy treatment is that given regular playing time I don't think he'd be doing much worse than Soriano's .846 OPS. Murt would have fewer home runs and would probably be a bit over .800 in OPS. Soriano's $136M is a history-makingly bad investment for such a small and temporary improvement over a cheap player we already had.

If Marquis was sent to AAA after the Cubs acquired Jose Contreras I sure would be up in arms about it. Pretty much the same analogy of floyd/pagan/jones over Murton.

 

Also when Murton does get a shot and puts up a OPS better than Soriano in 2009 for whatever team he is on, will you admit you are wrong?

 

I may be wrong about Murton, but I would rather be wrong about him based on what he has done so far in his career and only being 25, than be right about Floyd who is done as an everyday player.
