With Jones becoming a FA after this season, I'm curious about a few things:

1) Is there any reason to suspect he's hurt? He's never been a real high avg guy and he SO's quite a bit, but this season he's on pace for a terrible year as far as BA and SO's go.

2) Is he "past his prime at age 30 " - or is he just having one of those "off years?"

3) If he doesn't get has BA up in the .250+ range, what do you think the bidding will be on him this winter?

4) Would he be a fit for the Cubs OF if because of this season we have a chance to "buy low" for a change and hope he rebounds in 2008?

Just curious what you all think about him.

i don't think it's a good idea to buy low on him, because he's not a true "buy low" guy. he's still going to be sought after as a free agent, in all likelihood. he might have cost himself a few million dollars, but he'll still probably get paid a lot of money.

He is probably declining, but mostly this has just been an off year. Watch out for him though-Jones is heating up in a hurry. He has 5 home runs already in July (including the one tonight) and is 8 for his last 14. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has a big second half.

I'd love to acquire him for the stretch run, but something tells me the Braves are going to be in the thick of things by the time the trade deadline rolls around.

I'd be all over an acquisition of Jones. He still plays great defense and his bat will come around.

His bat is already coming around....right after I dropped him from my fantasy team because of an entire 1st half of suckage.

I live about 2 hours northeast of Atlanta, but I'm in Braves country no doubt, and the fans are realizing his struggles. I wouldnt want him, all he has been doing this year is striking out. Although he has raised his average to .215

Over the last 14 days, Andruw has hit 324/409/730. Over the last week, he's hit 625/727/1.250.

That could be a fluke or it could indicate he's pulling out of his season long slump. I don't think the Braves will entertain the idea of dealing him, but if they did, I'd be all over it.

Very true. It could be a fluke, or seeing as it's a very good player in Andruw Jones, he could be coming out of his slump.

not sure if this means anything, but his ld% and babip this season is nearly identical to his 2005, his career year. so this slump can't really be blamed on bad luck, can it?

2005: 16 LD% .248 BABIP

2007: 16.7 LD% .244 BABIP

The more I watch Andruw hit, the more it seems like a mechanical issue. His struggles began with a small mechanical issue and up to the All-Star break (the last time I watched a Brave game) he hadn't fixed the issue. It appears, though, they may have fixed the problem over the break.

So nobody has heard any inklings of any "ghost" injury or anything? That's a good thing.

Unless he salvages his season thought I have to believe he isn't going to command as much $ as he really should.

I'd love to see him with us in 2008+ as well - just don't know what kind of $ we're going to have to play with this offseason.
