Only news i've heard on Jorge is that he recently said he wants to see what it's like to be a FA so he won't sign an extension during the season.

Hopefully that will expedite his departure via trade. Unfortunately, he's 10-5, so he could veto anything as well.

If the Yanks deal Posada I'd guess they would be pursuing him again during the offseason. Plus they'd want young, power arms. I am a bit nervous about Jorge b/c of his advanced age and the no. of innings he has caught over the years.

Now would the acquiring of Arod involve a extension. I thought I read somewhere that Boras is trying to get him to be the first 30 mil a year player. That is a big risk to take and Posada might look good in the lineup this year but he is just a bandaid for a festering sore! Soto should get a good look at and get rid of Bowen or Hill or both if Hank White is healthy. ](*,)

Posada would be a terrific 2-month rental (plus draft pick(s)), provided the Yanks' asking price is commensurate with a rental player.

Age and wear and tear and all that is inconsequential... all the Cubs would need him to do is hold together for the next few months.

No doubt that Posada is an upgrade from what we have now. Is he worth what it would cost the Cubs. I don't see a senerio of him resigning? Right now Barry Foote out of retirement is better then what we have. One question though I haven't heard much but didn't La Duca get in a little trouble earlier in the year with his teammates maybe he's an option?

If the Yankees become sellers, I don't see Posada being all that costly in terms of prospects. He'll be a rental player.

My guess is that he could be had for mid-level prospects. The key is Posada agreeing to a trade since he's 10-5 and the Yankees falling far enough out by the deadline to start selling.

Posada could probably be had for prospects, but I don't see the Yankees dealing Posada. He's one of the classic Yankees from their dynasty.

I can see them dealing him and then resigning him in the offseason. So long as they feel they are out of it at the deadline.

If we can get Posada for mid-level prospects, we'd be foolish to overlook it.

One of baseball's best offensive catchers for the stretch run and possibly high draft picks if he leaves? Very much works for me.

Its really a no lose situation.

Yankees are a game over .500 and 9 games out of the division and 8 out of the wild card. I can't see them being sellers at the deadline. The Yankees' have the largest difference either way in the majors in expected W-L (52-37) is much higher than their actual W-L (45-44). They're going to get Hughes back in the next couple weeks which will help them and they still have one of the best offenses in baseball. They will at least be in the hunt for a playoff spot down the stretch.

Posada has slowed down some of late.

He's still having a great year.

I'll be honest though, I hate hate hate him. Mostly cuz he is a Yankee and a long term yankee. Most guys I could forgive and forget fairly quickly, it would be harder w/ Posada.

We seem to have alot of decent young catching talent on the farms/Soto, surely one of them could be our starter sooner rather than later?

I guess for a stretch run rental, I could stomach Posada. Reluctantly

I don't think they'll wind up being big sellers either. We'll see.

Just a small update for the thread...

Seeing as there are less than two weeks to go before the trade deadline, the Yankees are now only 7 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East and 6 games behind Cleveland and tied for third place with Minnesota in the AL Wild Card. Considering that after tomorrow's game against Toronto they have 4 vs Tampa and 4 at Kansas City while the Red Sox have 4 vs the White Sox and 4 at Cleveland, I think it's safe to say that gap could narrow a bit more in the next week. They're not selling anything useful at the deadline.

Ditto. Yanks will be buyers. Again. I think Dmitri Young is headed to NY. With all that money, all that pressure to win, and being a mere 6/7 games out of the playoffs--in mid-July, no less--there is no chance they are sellers. The Cubs' best opportunities for trades will be with the usual suspects. Attention Jim Hendry: just hang up the phone when Baltimore calls. Please.

If Baltimore is willing to take on either Izturis or Eyre for just about anything I would say yes.

Now after Jim Bowden asks Cashman for Hughes, Chamberlain, Wang and Cano or some ridiculous package thereabouts.

Unfortunately, at this point I'm going to agree with you. Of course, we can all hope for a 10-game Yankee losing streak to change things.

Andy Phillips has been playing rather well since he was called up and has been clutch for them. Everything is clicking for them right now and I don't see them upgrading at first base quite yet.
