Tonight should be a big obstacle to pass as he'd be pitching back to back nights for the first time.

More details about last night's inning from Rotoworld:

Kerry Wood allowed a hit, struck out two and threw a wild pitch during a shutout inning of relief at Single-A Peoria on Thursday.

Wood needed only 13 pitches to get through the inning. His fastball reached 94 mph. He will go for back-to-back appearances when he pitches again for Peoria on Friday.

Sounds good to me!

I think tonight is the most important outing to date for him. If he still feels good tomorrow after going back-to-back I think that will be a true reason for optimism.

Attempting to temper my excitement, but it's pretty difficult. As NC said, tonight's outing is of great importance. Hopefully the news out of Peoria tomorrow is of the 'good' variety.

What a magical thing that would be if he came back. But also PITCHED WELL!! I think he'd got a long standing ovation. And if he actually did well. The crowd would go wild every damn time he came out there. I guarantee it.

Per rotoworld:

Kerry Wood (shoulder) threw a scoreless inning Friday in his final appearance for low Single-A Peoria.

Wood was working on back-to-back days for the first time. "Kerry looked terrific tonight, as clean as you'd want to see after back-to-back outings," GM Jim Hendry said. "His fastball was right at 92 to 93 mph. He had good command and he threw some really good breaking balls." Wood is expected to continue his rehab at Triple-A.

Keep it rollin' Kerry!

Wow, that is awesome. I actually ran into Kerry Wood a couple of weeks ago at a restaurant in Old Town. I think it was a couple of weeks after he turned the corner in his rehab. I said hi and asked how the rehab was coming. He said it was going great, and seemed very upbeat and personable. I'm psyched not only because of the pitching ability he could bring to the pen, but also because he seems like a really good guy. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite all-time Cubs. Go Kerry!

In ST Piniella said that Wood would not make the pen if he couldn't pitch back to back games. Has he said whether he can do this or not? What does Lou think if he can't?

He meant assuming Wood isn't injured or in pain from pitching back-to-back games. It didn't seem like an obscure phrase to me.

Notes from Friday night's game:

1. Kerry Wood had some electric stuff. His fastball was hitting 93-94 with out any problems and with pretty good control. His breaking stuff seemed to be biting a little more than he was expecting, but people were swinging at it (granted, it's low-A ball).

1a. Other people have mentioned Wood's weight loss and I have to comment on it as well. I honestly didn't realize he was warming up about 10' in front of me until someone said, "Hey Kerry..." and then I looked closer and realized it was him. He looks almost scrawny... i don't know if that's a good thing or not.

2. Leon Johnson is fast, but an IDIOT on the basepaths. He got picked off standing about 2' from first base... catcher threw the ball to the pitcher who threw it to 1b and he was out without even moving.

3. I had a 1 on 1 talk with Jim Hendry who was at the game. I asked him when Griffey was coming to the Cubs and he just kinda chuckled and patted my back. He was extremely nice and easy to talk to, even though I felt like a junior high girl talking to their crush.

Did you throw in a NSBB.com plug?

Actually...he probably doesn't want to read this site.

I did not... like I said, I felt like a school girl. I had about a million thoughts come to my mind at once and they all came out at the same time.

It just didn't make sense to me. I wasn't assuming anything, just pointing out that he has pitched back-to-back games already.

Len said during the game today, Wood thru a bullpen session today that went well. He will throw Tues and prob pitch 2 innings, and then be evalutated on Weds, with it very possible he could be activated on Thurs!

Punch me in the face. I don't believe this is real.

"I look at it as a second chance," Wood said. "A month and a half ago, I didn't think I'd be talking to you guys, especially about pitching."

That's because about three weeks ago, Wood couldn't throw from 45 feet.

"I was thinking probably another surgery and that could be it, or another surgery and another long rehab," he said. "I wasn't willing to do that at the time. I gave it one more shot and so far so good."

He's heard the comments that he's made a miraculous recovery.

"It was kind of surprising," Wood said. "It was just overnight and unexpected for sure."

This still bothers me a little. Miracles like this just don't happen to Kid K.

Poor guy is due.

Pardon my ignorance, but if I have tickets to this Friday's game, does this mean there's an outside chance I could see Kerry pitch?
