i just don't really understand why we don't give

cedeno and soto both shots right now

while there is still some time before the deadline

This is a wonderful idea. Honestly with the trade market the way it is, there really arent many options that are discernably better than what either of these guys can produce. Give them a couple weeks (albeit small sample size) to prove whether or not they can acclimate to big league hitting this year. If so, you got your upgrade for free. If not, they can't hit any worse than the current production.

What song is that? I'm thinkin more. .

Dunn-Dunn-Dunn, Dunn. . .

Dunn-Dunn-Dunn, Dunn. . . . . . DUNNNNNNNN!

Where do you suggest playing him?

I don't want him. I was just making an actual tune with his name.

If we can add payroll why haven't we signed Z yet? That's what I want to know. I think by "adding payroll" Hendry is probably referring to taking on short term deals (probably impending FAs)

Thats my thought, short term doesn't matter too much. Any ideas on much more the team would sell for should they make the playoffs. The franchise is already extremely valuable, but the renewed fresh playoff craze could energize the buyers just a bit more.

I suggested this in another thread stating that I didn't really see any better options out there. Of course that idea changes if the Cubs are able to add salary. Using the hottest player until they cool off between Cedeno/Theriot, Floyd/Derosa, Soto/Bowen/Hill, and Pie/Pagan might work better than trading good young players for half-year rentals or over-the-hill vets.

He'd be no worse defensively than our current RF.

Nonsense. He's already the worst LF'er in baseball, he sure won't get better in right. The Cubs certainly don't need him.

Are you serious?

If he puts up a .350OBP and a .540+ slg% like he has been, let him sit in a lawn chair out there for all i care.

I wish Dunn would sign a 20 year contract somewhere -- anywhere! -- so that his name would stop popping up in every thread in the Transactions forum.

He'd be no worse defensively than Floyd and if Floyd were in LF, he'd be worse than Dunn.

We do need him. Having a hitter with a 900+ OPS would greatly improve the lineup.

But dadgumit, he strikes out too much...

I dont see the big deal. He is a great offensive player and he has been rumored to be on the trading block a couple times now and he seems liek a player that would fit this team well...

sounds like a perfect formula to lead to his name popping up here.

I was looking over a list of potential players that may be available. One that kind of stuck out to me a little is Torii Hunter. I would be against any kind of long term deal for him but as a rental I would be fully in favor of.

He is having a good year this year. He has always hit over .900 ops against LHers(a serious need on the Cubs). Would allow Pie to go back down. I am guessing that Minnesota isnt going to give him away. That plus being a rental makes it a longshot. I think he would be a good rental though.

I don't think the Twin will be sellers at the deadline. In fact, they might be closer to a playoff spot than we are. If that's the case they won't be looking to deal Hunter.

Agreed. The one thing I didn't miss while I was on sabbatical from anything Cub related was this "Adam Dunn" talk. I wish the Reds would just trade him to the AL, and get it over with.

With Demps setback, we at least have to kick the tires on Gagne. This oblique could give him problems the rest of the season.

Two words: Jim and Hendry.

That's three.

Yeah, but it sucks for them that he'll sign with Texas and the Twins won't get their first round draft pick.

I'm hearing a lot of rumblings that the Yankees will go hard after Hunter this offseason.

If they don't make the playoffs they might be going after around 15-20 guys this offseason.

I would like to see the cubs ask about Rios, Willkin will obviously give hendry a good report , can he play Cf?? if so he would be a definete upgrade on what we have. What would it take? Murton and a solid prospect??

Alex Rios would command one heck of a package. The guy is hitting .295/.350/.523 with 17 HRs. He's 26. He's been improving year after year. He'll be under their control for the foreseeable future.

I have a hard time seeing the Blue Jays part with him unless they're bowled over.

If we get Dunn the obvious choice would be moving Soriano to RF and Dunn to LF. It would be backasswards to have it the other way around. Seriously, what team puts the clearly superior defender/athlete in LF and the inferior in RF?

It is a really bad injury. Special for a pitcher who needs that area to develop his power.
