I didn't realize you could go on a rehab assignment before your DL stint was even over.

It's been that way as far back as I can remember. You just can't rejoin the major league club before then.

That seems like a convenient way to skirt around the 10 day rule then. Petrick goes down, Cherry comes up, and Petrick is available to be immediately recalled because Cherry goes on the DL while the only thing it costs the club is 5 extra days to recall Cherry.

Why is O'Malley still with the organization?

Eh, maybe he'll become a decent left handed reliever. If you look at some of the guys on the I-Cubs pitching staff, you can easily see O'Malley is better than some of the pitchers there.

HATE TO KEEP DOING THIS TO YOU GUYS BUT JESSE ESTRADA IS STARTING HERE TONIGHT AND ATKINS WILL THROW TOMORROW. HE WAS PUSHED BACK A DAY BECAUSE ESTRADA MISSED HIS START ON WEDNESDAY DUE TO RAIN...

Robert Hernandez has some major issues with the first inning (he has something like a 9.00 ERA there) and he gave up 2 more runs on 3 H in the first today. But he's also great the rest of the way and once again he pitched well in innings 2-5 to finish with 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 K/0 BB.

Alberto Cabrera is having his best outing of the season with 4 shutout innings so far for Boise. The 18-year old Latin American pitchers up in A-ball can be fun to listen to.

Iowa up 7-3 in the 7th. Ronny is 3/4 and his BA is up to .393.

Tennessee up 3-2 in the 7th. Holliman: 6 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 5 K/2 BB.

Daytona down 6-1 in the 6th. Dopirak and Harvey are 0/2 each.

Peoria down 4-0 in the 7th.

Boise up 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Dylan Johnston just hit his 12th double in 68 Boise at bats.

It's time to get that kid back to Chicago.

Make it 4/5, with an 8th inning RBI single.

I was distracted but apparently Mario Mercedes did something while trying to score for Boise and THREE Aqua Sox players punched him. The announcer isn't sure exactly what happened either. Following the ensuing bench-clearing incident, Mario Mercedes and Dylan Johnston were ejected, along with two Aqua Sox players.

Cabrera should be done now: 6 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 5 K/0 BB. Great outing for the kid.

ETA: Holy crap, one of the guys for Everett who punched Mercedes is still in the game. That's ridiculous.

Damn, Cabrera loses the shutout in the 7th and then is pulled. 6.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K/0 BB. Boise is up 12-2.

My goodness, Cedeno is making a mockery of AAA. Send Izturis to Baltimore and get him up here already.
Or our other trading partner, San Diego. :D

Iowa Cubs Top Zephyrs With Four Run Sixth Inning

By Andrea Breen / http://www.iowacubs.com

Ronny Cedeno and Buck Coats each extended their hitting streaks to 14 games as the Iowa Cubs defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-3 Friday night at Principal Park. The hit streaks are the longest by an Iowa Cub this year.

Cedeno was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. He scored in the third inning on Geovany Soto's sacrifice fly to give the Cubs an early 2-1 lead.

New Orleans tied the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth but the Cubs answered back. Coats reached on a single in the Cubs' four run sixth inning highlighted by a pinch-hit, two RBI double by Scott Moore to increase the Iowa lead to 7-3.

Josh Kroger and Bo Hart added a pair of hits in the win.

Carmen Pignatiello picked up the win for Iowa in his first decision this year. He tossed one inning and allowed one run. Willie Collazo was tagged with the loss for the Zephyrs.

One Hour-Plus Rain Delay Fatigues Bats

By: Matt Martinez

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) After a one hour and seventeen minute rain delay, the St. Lucie Mets worked over the home Daytona Cubs, 6-1 in a rubber match that left a combined 22 men on base.

The Cubs (6-10) were not very opportunistic as they left a gawdy 11 men on base as they dropped their second game in as many days. Jesse Estrada took the hill for Daytona but only lasted four and a third innings as his pitch count began to overflow. Estrada allowed three earned runs on eight base hits and walked four on the way to only his second loss of the season.

The Mets scattered one run in the first, third and fifth innings, respectively, before exploding for a three run sixth. Dan Murphy scorched Cubs' pitching to the tune of a four-for-five day at the plate with three RBIs and a solo home run to boot.

Conversely, the Cubs could not finish anything they started. Daytona only managed one run in the game which came all the way back in the first where the Cubs manufactured a run off a leadoff walk by Robinson Chirinos. Nate Spears bunted him over to second for his FSL best 12 sacrifice of the year and Chirinos earned a free pass to third on a passed ball. Chris Amador skied a fly ball to left to score the speedy Chirinos from third as the Cubs plated their only run of the ballgame.

BoiseHawks.com[/url]"]Santa Delivers! Hawks Win Fourth Straight

Santa Claus made his annual summer trip to Memorial Stadium Friday night and left a bundle of 16 hits under the Hawks tree that they converted to a 17-5 win over the Everett Aqua Sox, their fourth win in a row, in front of a Christmas in July crowd of 2,917.

Alberto Cabrera pitched his best game of the young season, throwing shutout ball for 6 and one- third innings. He was lifted in the seventh inning after giving up a long home run to Manilik Pimentel.

Steve Clevenger led a 16-hit attack with four hits, taking over the league lead in hitting with his .372 average. Marquez Smith collected four RBI's to increase his league-leading total to 16. Dylan Johnston hit his league-leading 12th double of the season. Jonathan Wyatt collected four walks and a single extending his on-base streak to 10 straight at bats. In the series Wyatt reached base in 15 of his last 16 at bats.

The 17 runs and 16 hits were the most by the Hawks this season and the win assured that they will remain in second place in the Eastern Division of the Northwest League.
