With another long bullpen outing today and potentially one tomorrow with Marquis starting, what reliever will be punished for Marshall's suckage today by being sent down to bring up another arm in time for tomorrow's game?

Can we stop the pre-emptive Marquis bashing? He's failed to go 5+ innings only once this year. Yeah, he's not great, nowhere close. But he's hardly as bad as people want to make him out to be.

That isn't directed at you btw, but it happens all the time on here. I'm all for criticising the guy, but he hasn't been that bad.

It's because of Eyre, not because of Izturis or Jones. We're working with essentially a 10 man staff because Lou doesn't trust Eyre with anything.(Nor should he.) Izturis and Jones, yeah they've been pretty worthless the past month or so, but we'd be fine with an 11 man staff if all of them were usable.

The Pen will always going to be short-handed if the Cubs won't let go of Izturis and Jones.

Period.

Yeah, right now the roster is basically 22 man because Lou won't use Jones, Izturis, or Eyre in anything like an important situation. When you have 3 players that your manager basically won't play, it limits the options. Hendry can't trade and won't release Jones (and with the way that Marlins trade looked, we may as well DFA him). Same with Eyre and Izturis. At least our manager means it when he says he has a "win-now" mentality. Our manager is making our GM look like the total imbecile that he is this season, and I'm quite enjoying it, winning with Jones, Izturis, and Eyre riding the pine.

My guess is Cherry is shuttled back down and Rapada will be brought up.

My intent wasn't to bash Marquis, even if it came out that way. I was simply referring to the fact that the Cubs had to make a bullpen move today because of a short outing by Hill yesterday, and now they'll probably need to make another move tomorrow because of Marshall's outing today.

Love how the Cubs have to rotate in bullpen help because Hendry has three pieces of crap that he won't get rid of. Good teams are not run in this manner.

It could be the Yankees who like to use their starters on throw days as relievers! LOL!

I am not sure what is going to happen but I think they are going to go with a 12 man staff. They may send 1 pitcher and 1 position player down and call up two pitchers. Or someone may mysteriously go on the DL.

I think I just heard on The Score, that Billy Petrick is back. That means one of the Cubs is "injured" and will go on the DL.

David Schuster is at the park and he says the reliever is at the park as well.

How can they call him back so quick?

I think there is an exception to the 10 day rule in case of injury.

In case of an injury to a player on the 25 man you can recall a player w/o having to wait ten days. In this case I hope/think it is an "injury".

someone turned out the clubhouse lights and then jabbed Cesar in the eye.

If it does turn out to be Rocky Cherry, I'm not surprised. I would have liked to get rid of Eyre, but Cherry is no more effective than him, and we can't trade Eyre while he is on the DL.

I just heard that it's a strained shoulder for Cherry.

No DFA one of the trifecta of suckage.

Glad to see Petrick back, though!

A DFA wouldn't have helped Petrick come back-only a DL stint for somebody can do that. They can't really push Eyre to the DL, because he would almost certainly fight it. It's hard to tell right now if Cherry really is hurt, or if he is just a little more accommodating. My guess is that his shoulder does hurt a little bit, and he'd be out for 2-3 days, and they took the opportunity to put him on the DL. He's eligible to come off just a couple games after the All-Star break, so it's not that bad for him either.

With Cherry, they could have said it's either DL or AAA. With DL, he still collects a MLB paycheck and accrues MLB service time. He was probably more than willing to accept it.

You couldn't give Eyre that choice. He already has the service time and makes his money one way or the other.
