It's downright ugly right now in downtown Chicago, I work in the Mart and could literally barely see across the river and the buildings on Wacker Dr.

Wrigleyville is basically completely flooded.

Water is up past the sidewalks and almost touching the buildings.

Yeah. Just looked outside my house and the water is basically to my steps. It's crazy.

Game Notes.

NO ORDINARY VICTORY: The Cubs defeated the Rockies last night, 10-9, at Wrigley Field despite blowing an 8-3 lead by allowing 6 runs in the top of the ninth … Alfonso Soriano’s 2-out, 2-run, bases loaded single in the ninth inning gave Chicago the victory … it marked Soriano’s sixth career walk-off hit and his first since a game-ending single June 29, 2005 as a member of the Rangers vs. the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The last time the Cubs allowed 6 or more runs in the ninth inning or later at Wrigley Field yet still won the game was September 17, 1947 vs. the Giants (gm. 2) … the Giants tied the game, 10-10, scoring 6 times in the top of the ninth inning … Bill Nicholson gave the Cubs a 12-10 win with a 2-run, walk-off home run … thanks to Ed Hartig for his assistance.

Since that game in 1947, the Cubs had allowed 6 or more runs in the ninth inning or later at Wrigley Field 24 times and lost them all prior to last night.

EIGHT IS GREAT: Infielder Mike Fontenot enters tonight with an 8-game hitting streak, making him just the eighth Cubs left-handed hitter to enjoy a streak of at least 8 games since the start of the 2000 season … it’s the longest streak by a Cubs left-handed batter since Juan Pierre had a 9-game streak to end the 2006 campaign.

Fontenot, who went 5-for-5 last night vs. Colorado, has hit safely in his last 7 at-bats since Sunday against the White Sox … the club record for hits in consecutive at-bats is 9, held by Sammy Sosa (June 30-July 2, 1993) … earlier this season, Alfonso Soriano hit safely in 7 straight at-bats, June 3-5.

Fontenot’s 5-for-5 game last night made him the first Cubs left-handed batter to go 5-for-5 since Mark Grace turned the trick, August 6, 2000 at San Diego.

NOT A BAD MONTH: The Cubs’ 14 June victories are tied for the most among National League clubs along with division rival Milwaukee … Chicago’s .583 winning percentage (14-10) this month ranks fourth-best in the Senior Circuit behind Milwaukee (.636), Colorado (.591) and Philadelphia (.591).

Are we going to get this one in tonight?

I would think the weather would be OK from here on out. I guess it's just a question of waht the field looks like. The water in the streets is slowly but surely going down.

I would have to guess yes, the game will get in.

Weather.com says storms are gonna continue throughout the night with flash flood warnings. :?

There is one flash flood warning, for Cook County, because of a slow moving storm there earlier. It's all afternoon convection in a warm, humid air mass... dying out already. This game will be played, maybe without a delay too.

As long as it's played.

Comcast just showed the Cubs dugout.

It is so flooded that Eyre, Howry and couple other guys (Wood I think) had to literally swim back to the clubhouse. Water was flowing from the field, into dugout, down the tunnel (about 3 feet high).

yeah saw that on Tribune Live. That was nuts Howry giving somebody a piggy back ride, trudging through at least knee high water in the hall ways behind the dugout.

SO no game?

It hasn't been raining for about an hour now and the radar looks fine. They should get the game in.
