Just another reason you got to like our announcers. Even Santo who is Cub all the way through will only say Oh No when something bad happens to the Cubs. He doesn't act like a child like Hawk Harrelson does.

I know this is a Hawk bashing session (which I'm all too happy to join) but Ron provides absolutely no value whatsoever to a broadcast. I love Ronnie to death, but it's more than time for him to retire.

August 7, 2001 and June 19, 2004, among others, say that Ron still provides plenty of good, clean, shouting entertainment to a broadcast.

Don't you think Hawk will be getting fined for dropping the two BS comments, not to mention the dagummits? I've frankly never heard an announcer go off like that on a TV broadcast.

"Dadgum" was a clean and acceptable substitute for something a little bluer, last I checked, and I know he's dropped "BS" during cable broadcasts before with little to no recourse.

I don't reccomend reading WSI on a regular basis, but this post (yes, I posted this also in another thread) sums it up.

If Hawk knew baseball as well as he claims, he would have not gone nuts in the booth and made himself look like a fool.

The fact is Ken Harrellson knows the game and it's rules about as well as my ass chews gum.

Ha, a Sox fan friend of mine used to post at WSI. He had me check it out one day. It's ridiculous. Every other post (literally) is about the Cubs, or references the Cubs, their fans, etc. A White Sox board should probably feature talk about the Sox, not the Cubs. Outside of this weekends series, you probably won't see many more Sox related threads, even in the Rivalries section. We don't play them anymore this year, so there's no reason to even bring them up. They don't see things that way on that board though.

That was an awesome tape.

The only thing that I would have liked to seen otherwise was what happened when they finally explained it and realized what happened. I wish the tape would have continued to show that, because it would have been really funny to see their change in attitude from the end of the previous half inning.

The one thing lost in all this is how the CSN production team could be so incompetent to have missed the interference call. They just hung up Hawk and DJ out to dry.

Unless the CSN crew somehow didn't have a 3rd base or a home plate camera, their failure to put up a replay inside of 15 or 20 seconds is inexcusible. The fact that they never showed the obstruction at all* is enough to make one wonder if they knew what had happened but decided to sit back and enjoy the carnage. Maybe they hate Hawk and DJ as much as we do.

*I've only seen the youtube video, so if they showed it in the bottom of the 8th, or the 9th, I wouldn't know about it

The only reason I can think of to not show the replay is they were all down in the truck laughing at Hawk and DJ, and they wanted to see where those two clowns would go with it.

LOL, that's pretty funny.

Now I want to hear the recording of Hawk & DJ back in the truck yelling at them for hanging them out to dry.

Teddy Greenstein already has an article on it. Apparently Ed Farmer was just as bad on the radio. Teddy says only Pat Hughes got it right, but for some reason he completely ignores Len and Bob either way....

Pat thought that DeRosa was gonna be called out and Pagan and Pie would stay at 2nd and 3rd.

Yes, but I believe Pat was the first to identify that they were huddling because of the obstruction. Perhaps Pat's former experience as an ump helped him out there - ?

Anyway, best thing about that article: look over to the right, near the bottom of the page, in the "Photo Gallery" section. White Sox fan sitting all alone with paper bag on his head. Priceless!

Len and Bob noticed it while it was happening. Pat noticed the ump pointing on the replay. Either way, unlike Hawk and DJ, both Cub broadcasts figured it out quickly.

My favorite is how they both just got calm and casually claimed that this game was an easy "overturn" for the league. No problems.

I hope they aren't holding their breath for that to happen.

I hope they are.

Wouldn't the two broadcast teams be sharing the same cameras for the game? They should have had the same view Bob and Len had--only they know how to call a game instead of fuming like two drunk whining fans.

According to the Trib, when Cora came out after Ozzie was ejected, it was because he was trying to file a protest. But he couldn't because when the umps asked him what rule he was protesting, he couldn't say, because he didn't even know what had happened because he wasn't out there for the argument.

They must have had a separate control truck or something, because I'm pretty sure I remember the WGN broadcast re-showing the obstruction several times, but then going back and looking at the Comcast broadcast it didn't look like it was ever shown until a later inning (if at all).

The more I think about this the more I wonder if the Comcast producers just let it continue to watch Hawk nearly have a heart attack :)

If Farmer is the guy on the radio, I can attest to that. I had the game on XM playing on the beach, I wasn't listening closely when it began but stopped to try and figure out what was up when he was going ballistic. The other guy (Singleton?) seemed to grasp what was happening, somewhat. But Farmer kept saying A) he hadn't seen the replay yet and B) whatever the call is, it has to be wrong. The other guy seemed to know what was happening, but was too afraid to speak up with the angry old man going ballistic. It was confusing as hell because they didn't seem interested in letting the listeners know what was happening, rather, they just wanted to bitch and moan. Even as the next inning began they were complaining, but by the end they gave up on the story as somebody must have gotten in their ear about how dumb they sounded.

Well, in all fairness (I try to be fair, many times unsuccessfully :)), for the White Sox this isn't a frustrating game in isolation. What we saw yesterday was probably more a culmination of the frustration that has been going on for the past 4 months, really. The corks really blew off the bottle on that play, but it's probably been coming for awhile.
