The big question I have is that if Marshall or Hill were dealt for a major bat, who would step into the rotation?

Guzman has begun to throw again in Ariz.

I am guessing that the Cubs would get Marmol into the rotation and put Guzman back in the pen when he is healthy enough.

Hmm, I wonder if this is where all the "Dempster to the rotation" talk has stemmed from. My guess is that if either were dealt, Dempster would go into the rotation and Marmol might get a chance to close. I'm not saying thats what I would do, but based on comments, that might be the plan.

maybe marquis and lilly should be "under some scrutiny" in their next starts. hill and marshall look ok to me.

What has Lilly done wrong?

Ranks 2nd in WHIP, 10th in K's.

3.90 ERA...

Tough crowd around here.

Huh?

I was simply responding to what seemed like a dig at Lilly.

wood's OPS-ing .794 in the PCL this year. no way i'd trade hill for wood.

he's up to .258/.350/.475. where as his may was an awful .205/.316/.361, he's at .312/.391/.636 in june. he's managed to increase his walk rate each of the last three years to a respectable 12.1% this year, while decreasing his K rate by 7.3%. i'm not sayin', i'm just sayin'.

ok.

hoops said the cubs were alarmed by marshall and hill's recent poor outings. they both pitched great their next time out. lilly was bad his last time out, and marquis has been bad of late. i suggested that the cubs be alarmed about those guys too if they're going to let one start by marshall/hill bother them.

i'm not saying he sucks, i'm just saying i wouldn't trade hill for him.

i'd trade zambrano for him... not hill though. Gammons wrote an article today talking about how critical it is to produce good young pitchers - like the Tigers have with Verlander, Bonderman and Miller - because if you don't, then you've got to shell out the big bucks for mid-level talent like Ted Lilly. There's no reason to trade away a very good young pitcher for a position prospect, unless you're getting the next Pujols or Cabrera.

Right now, I prefer holding on to both Marshall and Hill.

Trade Lilly. Trade Veal. Keep Marshall and Hill.

First rational thinking I ever seen on here, and I agree.

No sense in trading one of your two young lefties, especially with their amazing breaking balls.

In my view, I think both of them have a very high ceiling, with Hill being the higher than Marshall, but Marshall can be a serviceable 3rd to 5th pitcher.

He's done nothing wrong, but neither have Hill or Marshall. They all are esseintially the same pitcher. So if I'm going to trade one, I'd rather trade the expensive one.

well yeah, except the point Hoops was making is that the Cubs would get something good in return for Hill or Marshall. They wouldn't get much for Lilly unless they also threw in a good chunk of his salary the next 3+ years.

Actually he said it alarmed "some folks", not that it alarmed the Cubs. My interpretation was that the alarm was with scouts, etc from other teams that might be looking at these two in potential trades.
