MVP has just reported that the NL has announced the suspensions for the brawl on Saturday.

Derrek Lee - 5 games

Chris Young - 5 games

Gerald Perry - 3 games

Jake Peavy & Marcus Giles - both fined

THe appeals process will now begin, so Lee and Young will still be able to play until they have their hearings.

Why is Giles being fined? All that I saw him do was pull Young away from Lee, preventing any further punches from being thrown. If anything, he should be commended.

Wow I will gladly accept 5 games. Maybe even with an appeal he gets it knocked down to 4. But why in the hell is Perry suspended and Peavs ass isnt?

I suspected that Lee would get about that many. I'm shocked that Perry was suspended for 3 games and yet Peavy was not suspended, even though their actions during the brawl were nearly identical and Peavy had the comments before the game that helped cause it as well.

Peavy should be suspended (It would help my fantasy team)... but I don't see why Giles is being punished at all. He was the one doing the job that the home-plate umpire SHOULD have been doing!

what the F did Gerald Perry do?

He ripped Jake Peavy's head off... after Peavy charged in from behind and tried tackling DLee.

Ya he was trying to get Peavy off DLees back. Big freaking deal

Sounds about right. The question now is when is the best time for Lee to serve. I would think he'd want to appeal at least to give Ramirez time to return. But I wouldn't want him missing the Brewers series. It might be best to have him serve the week before the all star break.

What did Perry do? I only got to listen to the radio broadcast and see the highlights.

And Young only gets 1 game for throwing near somebodys head. BS

*edit* nevermind I see what you're saying

And does anyone know what Gerald Perry did, I know he got thrown out along with Peavy but I never heard why.

Where are you getting 1 game from, the man is serving 5 like Lee.

Hes a starting pitcher he misses 1 start

And he'll probably appeal until the Padres have an offday so that they can skip his rotation spot for a day and he'll pitch the next.

I'd rather not the week before the All-Star Break-so many left-handed starters, especially on the Pirates. The Cubs absolutely need Lee against LHP right now, and they could possibly face 4 of them in the 5 games Lee misses during that time. Plus Lee's replacement Ward is a lot smaller dropoff to Lee when facing a right-hander than a left-hander. I'm hoping he doesn't have to serve it until after the All-Star Break.

Anyone remember how long Barrett took to serve his suspension last season?

It was between 3-4 weeks. The incident was on May 20th, his suspension didn't start until June 16th.

I was thinking 7-8 games, so I'm content with the suspension.

Peavy should have gotten more than a slap on the wrist.

Surprised Young got the same as Lee. I don't think MLB was faulting him for throwing a punch in self-defense. Sounds like they think he was throwing at Lee.
