I saw this posted on another website that Smarj. was starting tonight for Daytona........

hummm........... thats interesting. I thought for sure he would at least finish the year in the pen.

what are his numbers in relief?

I saw this posted on another website that Smarj. was starting tonight for Daytona........

His personal website says he is starting tonight.

So what was that, 4 outings from the pen over 2 weeks. One thing this does is put a little bit of a limit on the number of innings he'll be racking up this year, his first full season of pitching. Considering his previous high was about 130 innings, last year, and that was quite an increase from 2005, I wouldn't want to see him get much more than 120-130 this year.

Hopefully he's able to turn things around as a starter during the 2nd half of his season.

I thought they made it clear he was going back to the rotation some time this year, but I wasn't thinking it would be this soon.

According to his page on milb.com, he had 4 outings, totalling 7 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 ER, 2 K and 2 BB.

Murton, Coats, and Soto hit homers!

I'm glad to see that out of Murton especially-a homerun and a double today. I did notice though that both of those were in the first 2 innings against a pitcher who lasted only 1 2/3 and gave up 9 hits and 8 runs along with all 3 of those home runs, so it's safe to say that the pitcher was throwing up batting practice today (or maybe it's the wind, which is blowing 15 miles per hour straight out).

Hopefully Murton can continue to have days like this when maybe the conditions aren't so favorable and get back up to the majors quickly, because the Cubs could really use his productive bat, especially against left-handers.

And now Micah Hoffpauir with a grand slam to put Iowa ahead 12-11 in the bottom of the 8th!

Solid game for Murton - 2/4 with a double, HR and a walk. And Buck Coats is 5/5 and just hit a 2-run HR...Iowa now up 14-11.

Jake Fox has a 2-run HR and Tennessee is up 2-1 after 1.

Samardzija has 3 scoreless - 3 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 1 K/3 BB.

Colvin with a solo homer to make it 3-0!

Sounds like he smoked that one - he hit the tennis courts (wherever they are).

"Over both the fences, over the tennis court fence and onto the tennis court." Wow. HR #6.

Geez, Samardzija with his 4th walk on 4 pitches to start the fourth...and then induces a 6-4-3 GIDP with the next batter.

4 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 1 K/4 BB, 6 GO-3 FO, 58 pitches. Jeff keeps falling behind but somehow getting out of trouble. Daytona up 3-0 in the middle of the fourth.

By naked eye, the Daytona announcers estimate that Colvin's HR travelled 430 feet. Edited by CaliforniaRaisin

Tennessee down 3-2 after 3.

Fifth inning in Daytona:

Leadoff double.

Lineout.

IF single - should have been a groundout.

Flyout, runner holds at third base.

4-pitch walk.

Pitching change, Scott Koerber coming in. The bases are loaded, Daytona up 4-0.

Samardzija: 4.2 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 1 K/5 BB, 6 GO-5 FO, 75 pitches.

Koerber gets out of it with a 5-3 groundout, so that is Jeff's final line.
