Wish someone would Farnsworth him.

I hope Peavy took some blows while in that pile.

Well, Barrett was on top of him wasn't he? I'm sure that MB was punching him in the ribs the entire time.

LOL, I hope so. Gearld Perry grabbed him by the neck and pulled him down.

Another look shows that Peavy was pulled off the ground with redness to the side of his face and a few seconds later, and a little farther away, Jacque is pulled up and he was looking a little wobbly too. Who knows what went on in that pile.

i'm thinking peavy got punched several times by several people. someone wearing one of the blue windbreaker things is on top of the pile punching as well (it's right after piniella trips).

Gonna go out on a limb and call Chris Young a racist a-hole.

I'm not sure that is a great idea. I know personally I would not be very happy if someone went "out on a limb" accusing me of something without actual facts.

If there's footage of you mouthing it, then it's totally called for.

What footage?? What did he say!?

you get a pretty good view on the highlights MLB.com has up right now. I couldn't pick up what he was saying. Whatever he said made Derrek turn and say, "what!?"

I can't find any, can you link me to it?

it's on MLB.com's main page.

here's another look

The Fight

this view isn't so great and the quality is meh.

Who is the Padre in the warmup jacket that grabs Lee from behind in a bear hug and sets off the second incident?

jake peavy was the spineless d-bag that kept things goin cuz he grabs lee from behind....then barrett jumps on him and perry puts him in a headlock

I hope Peavy took some blows while in that pile.

he took the sweet chokehold from perry....p.s. russell branyan who doesnt kno what was goin on in that discussion of dlee and young decided to chime in and say how lee had no right to do that...branyan is a dbag too...stay classy, san diego

From Cubs.com... not sure if this has been posted...

As Lee walked to first base, he exchanged words with Young. Lee then took a swing at the 6-foot-10 right-hander. Young retaliated with a right jab of his own, but neither player actually landed a punch. Both benches cleared, and Lee ended up underneath a pile of players near home plate. Peavy was on top of the Cubs first baseman, and sources said he was sucker-punching him.

If Peavy was sucker punching Lee, then I'd bet my bank account that Barrett was hitting Peavy as hard as physically possible.

I hope Big Z taught him something...good thing BBTN made it clear Z was in the clubhouse as to why his belt was out because that could get blown outta proportion wit the incompetent mlb offices and penalize him for tryin to give him a whooping

Someone please explain to me what Jake Peavy said that was so villainous.

Don't give me this "moving in the direction of first base" BS. Fonz was holding his bat moonwalking his first few steps.

tb4 the game today he said he didn't appreciate it and if he was on the mound he would bean one of soriano's teammates to make sure that guy went to the bench and told him to knock it off. basically peavy gave a preview of what was to come later in the day

"I would hit one of his teammates in the ribs" isn't really bad, but it looks terrible in light of the incident today.

I quoted it already in this thread. In essence, Peavy said he would drill one of Soriano's teammates so that the guy would go back and tell him to run to first base.

i agree what peavy said isnt bad, but its the sleezy jagbag blindsiding Lee when the fight was startin to cool off and they were seperated...he saw his chance to exact revenge and he did it...ill take renteria clotheslining fontenot in a non sneaky way all day than what peavy did today...be a man

Disagree. No pitcher ever admits, publicly, that he hit a guy on purpose. They always lean on "the pitch got away." It's an unspoken rule of retaliation in baseball but for Peavy to be quoted talking about revenge is ridiculous.

It's no coincidence that DLee was hit.

My only thoughts on this issue are this:

Those of you who have called Lee an idiot for doing what he did have lost your grip on reality.

He just saw a pitch that was somewhere in the vicinity of 80-90mph thrown at his head and then had the same pitcher tell him (as seems to be the general consensus) that he's going to do it again. I would have punched him too. At that point in time, I don't care who you are, you're going to lose control and start swinging.

There is no way that you can expect ANYONE to be able to keep their calm and keep the teams best interests in mind while in the situation Lee was in today. Lee is only human, all be it one of the best.

Also, the umpiring crew is totally at fault here. Either one of the first bas or home plate umpires had PLENTY of damn time to walk out there and get between Lee and Young but one was busy arguing with the catcher and the other..well i have no idea. If an ump gets between them theres a 99% chance no punches are thrown.

It would seem to me that the best way to not worry about some type of lack of respect would be to stop giving up moonshots to Soriano. He hit the crap out of that ball, Wells and Peavy should be worrying about that instead of making up reasons to blame Soriano for Wells getting rocked. I mean, if it's Adrian Gonzalez that does that on Friday, as a fan I don't like it, maybe I think a little less of them as a player. But at the end of the day, the very simple way to avoid it is to get him out, or at the least give up home runs that travel less than 900 feet.

LOL, here we go:

The Cubs are feeling like human pincushions these days, and Alfonso Soriano says they're not going to take it anymore.

Soriano's moonwalk out of the batter's box Friday after his home run onto Waveland Avenue certainly irritated the Padres, though they insisted it did not prompt retaliation in the form of a Chris Young fastball that hit Derrek Lee on Saturday, igniting a brawl that's likely to lead to Lee's suspension.

"We're like a family here," Soriano said. "If they throw at somebody, we have to throw at somebody, too, because that's not fair."

Seriously though, if they were to decide to throw at someone. Who would they throw at? Greene, Gonzalez or Giles would be my guess. There is no real standout.

Awwhhhh man. This is gonna get ugly.

So, the question now becomes. How many people do Z and Barrett team up to kill in the bench-clearing brawl tomorrow?

Peavy. Turn around and just whip it into the dugout.

Mike Cameron? Why didn't he start today, is he hurt?

It's too important of a game to expect anything to happen early (if at all). However, tomorrow is the final game in the season series. If it's a blowout, either way, the managers will be taking the best players out long before the lowest bullpen man can come in and do damage.

If it's a close game, revenge will have to wait until next season. Add them to the list that already includes Tim Hudson and Edgar Renteria.

I doubt Hill or Maddux will play beanball tomorrow. Hill might, but not Maddux.

If it happens, expect it from a reliever.

LOL, I'm not convinced that Maddux wouldn't but I don't think either starter will.

umm they should highlights on CSN with the dawson fight against the padres and after all the fighting maddux hit benito santiago in the hip...so im sure he would do it cuz the cubs arent his team....but i doubt anything happens cuz the cubs would have to retaliate and its way to big of a game for them...cuz they can ill afford to drop a series they have a nice stretch going and need to build up momentum for texas witha win

Michael Jordan did not punch Danny Ferry. he never punched any Piston, he never punched any Knick, he never punched anyone on the Heat. he never punched anyone. no matter how hard they hit him, no matter how many times they hammered him in mid-air, and trashed talked about it afterwords, he didn't punch them back, no matter how many times it was deserved.

you know what he did? he had Stan Livingston and Will Purdue and Scott Williams take care of the dirty work for him. don't sit there and tell me that adult human males are incapable of showing restraint in that situation and that in so doing it was keeping the teams best interest in mind.

I don't blame Lee for throwing a punch, but the insinuations that it was uncontrollable or good for the team or the right thing to do or morally superior to others actions are just insane.

at some point someone has to be the 'mature baseball professional.' Soriano has to at the very least be a little more discrete in his celebration. Peavy has to shut his punk mouth. the Pads manager has to tell his team to suck it up and get payback on the field, not in the papers or with beanballs. Chris Young has to not be Peavys puppet and just go about the business of winning baseball games, not evening scores and being a punk when he does so. and Derrick Lee has to take it like a man, go to first, and get his revenge with his play.

if any one of these idiots just acted like a 'mature professional' it wouldn't have gotten as far as it did. of all people, the one who wasn't a total fricken idiot is David Wells, who said he didn't even see Soriano's dance and he'd have to file it away. that's how you handle it. you wait until the next time you face the perpetrator, and even the score personally, either through getting him out and showing him up, or with a harmless beanball at the hip.

prediction time, and I'm getting pretty good at it throughout these things.

Hill loses his fastball up and in to lefties all the time and his curveball bounces near the feet of righties all the time. warnings will be issued before the game starts, at some point a fastball will get away from Hill up and in to a lefty, or a curveball in the dirt will nip a Padre toe, and he will be ejected.
