How many times have we failed to score in this situation already this year...(Fred?)..I can think of at least two-three times off the top of my head. 2 years ago I remember we were prolific at failing to score runners from third w/less than 2 outs...our proclivity at this seems to be an even greater accomplishment :^o

It happened the last two out of three games and it's no coincidence that we lost both games.

We don't deserve to win when we squander great opportunities like that.

I don't think anything in baseball angers me as much as not scoring a run with the bases loaded and no outs (and nobody hitting into a double play).

I agree...heck, try a suicide squeeze if you can't hit the damn ball out of the infield.

On average, teams score 2.3 runs when presented with the bases loaded nobody out... it kills me every time the Cubs fail to get even one.

Does anybody know that percentage of times you can expect at least one run?

If I'm not mistaken it happened in the last Braves game. There was a similar situation in the astros game and last night. Our bullpen is righting the ship. Now our offense is not doing their part.

Just for fun, everyone should post one different way that you can score with the bases loaded and 0 outs.

I'll start:

1. Ground into a double play that doesn't involve an out at home.

Posted
2. Sec fly to fight, runner coming home from 3rd is nailed at the plate, but the Cacther throws the ball to third attempting to get the runner coming from second, who is able to score when the throw goes wild into left field.

shorten your stroke and focus on hitting the ball to the middle infield.

If a player has the bags loaded and 0 outs and doesn't get that run home he should be fined 10K. There is no excuse for that crap, you are a major league ballplayer.

Nah. Gotta tip your cap to the pitcher. :D

ahh, yes. I'm suprised the Cubs don't have blisters on their head, with all the friction of constantly taking off and putting back on, of their hats.

Does anybody know that percentage of times you can expect at least one run?

From Tangotiger 99-02

With the bases loaded and 0 outs, chances that:

0 runs score: 12.8%

1 run scores: 25.5%

2 runs score: 21.1%

3 runs score: 14.3%

4 runs score: 13.4%

5+ runs score: 13.0%

So the Cubs have been more likely to score more than 5 runs than 0 runs, and have consistently "beat" the odds...

Bases loaded, probabiltiy of 1 run.

87% no outs

67% 1 out

32% 2 outs

It's a rare occasion that the Cubs score 2 runs with the bases loaded and nobody out.

Opposing teams should just walk the first 3 Cubs batters of every inning. We wouldn't score more than 3 runs per game.

Do those numbers take into account Cesar Izturis being one of the hitters?

Isn't the stat about the end result of the inning? The Cubs did score 1 run in the inning they had bases loaded and nobody out. Presumably to get the bases loaded there's a good chance you already scored. So they don't fall into the 12.8% category of no runs.

I think run expectancy charts are from the situation forward. So whatever happens prior to loading the bases doesn't really matter. I could be wrong though.
