If my catcher was calling my game with an almost 8 run average, the very least thing i would do would be to punch him in the face and send him to the hospital.

Another great reason to hate Barrett, besides defensively sucking and a craptacular .246/.303 performance.

You don't think Z shakes guys off and throws whatever the hell he wants at this point?

or maybe you could actually take responsibility for your own crappy pitching and not blame the guy you're throwing to

With Zambrano pitching, you can go to the "defensive" catcher because Zambrano will make up for the lost offense that Barrett provides with his own hitting ability.

Conveniently left out the .429 SLG He's sitting at a 91 OPS+ right now which is a little below average but he also has an .892 OPS in the month of June, so he's coming around. He's without a doubt our best option at catcher, unless you want to base your decision on worthless garbage like catcher's ERA.

I would be OK with letting Barrett get most of his off days when Zambrano is pitching, but if you look at the larger sample size posted earlier, you can see that Zambrano has had plenty of success pitching to Barrett over the course of his career. Catcher's ERA is a pretty meaningless stat anyway.

Why is a catcher's ERA worthless?

Large variations and almost zero consistency. IE, Z was better with Barrett two seasons ago, almost dead even last year, and much worse with Barrett this season.

I would like to see Z's stats broken out for the phases of the moon so we can pitch him when he really thrives.

Catcher's don't pitch?

Edit: Not meaning to come across as snippy. But obviously the biggest factors in a pitcher performance are, obviously the pitcher, but also the team he faces. What good is a stat that doesn't account for the fact that people are pitching against completely different teams?

When the difference is as drastic as it is in this instance, it's not worthless by any means.

So has Barret just suddenly became terrible then or what? Cause his past with Zambrano is pretty darn good.
