Bring it on, raw. A battle of 7-2/first-place teams.

Should be a good one. My pitching has probably overachieved a bit this year, and I will need more of that this week.

We both picked up good bats (you-Delgado, me-Sheffield)

Both have 1 two start pitcher. If Marquis' 2 starts can match Sabathia's (Marquis has actually been about 30-40 points better this year but is slumping), and the rookies can be pretty close (Lincecum vs. Owings), I'll take my chances with Santana, Hamels and Escobar, and my superior offense, even though he has 3 hot SPs in Lackey, Francis, and Beckett.

John Garland frustrates the heck out of me. I put him in when I think there's a good matchup and he blows chunks. I take him out against tough teams and he goes 8.1 IP of respectable pitching.

Grr.

i don't care what brenly and len say, marquis looked like absolute [expletive] tonight. i'm afraid he's about to start sucking hard.

did anyone catch that missed 3rd strike to jenkins? granted, barrett should have caught it, but marquis honestly missed his spot by five feet.

great game going on between oakland and boston.

kendall probably needs to get drilled in the back after that tag on pedroia.

speaking of Pedroia, I can't believe he was available. Moreover...I can't believe I picked up Lopez without noticing he was available. :(

Had to drop him with guys coming off the DL and no roster spots available. Picked him back up now. :)

Speaking of roster moves......

Is it legal to pick up a guy and stash him in your minors when he is currently playing in the big leagues? Doesn't sound right to me.

Yunel Escobar went 4-4 yesterday for the Braves and was picked up and stashed in GHS's minor leagues.

I believe it's OK as long as the player still has minor league eligibility remaining. I've done that a couple of times (although not this year).

you can have anybody who meets the minor league requirements on your minor league roster. for instance, sonnanstine is starting for the drays this week, but you can keep him on your minor league roster until he exceeds the minor league limits.

it may be time for me to start trusting ol' mitre.
That statement applies to me last week relating to Marshall. If I had I would have won.

And if I would have inserted Milton Bradley into my line up the day he came off the DL, I probably still would have beaten your team with Marshall in there. And if Rolen didn't miss the entire weekend series, I might have beaten you by a much larger margin. :D

Sonnanstine and Escobar are different. Sonnanstine has been in my minor leagues, therefore I should be able to leave him in my minors until I decide to promote him.

Escobar was a free agent playing in the big leagues. It makes absolutely zero sense that you can pick up a free agent who is currently on a big league roster and tuck them away in the minors.

But, if those are the rules, all I can do is shrug my shoulders.

so even though sonnanstine and escobar are both in the bigs, you should be able to keep sonnanstine in the minors just b/c you happened to pick him up while he was still in the minors? even though neither one of them has passed the minor league limits?

i don't think that makes any sense. not only would that be very difficult to police, but there are guys who don't get added to the database until they are called up...under your theory, those guys would never be able to be considered minor leaguers?

I believe this was the rule in the first year of the league, until we realized the issue with the database. But I believe that has since been changed.

also, what if i were to trade escobar to raw and you were you were to trade sonnanstine to raw? would he be allowed to keep sonnanstine in the minors, but not escobar? it wouldn't make sense for raw to be forced to keep escobar on his major league roster when he had nothing to do with me picking him up off free agency.

Yep. That's the way it should be. If you are lucky enough to grab a guy before he gets the call, you can keep him in your minors. It makes zero sense to allow current major league players to be picked up off of free agency and stashed in the minors.

ok, so what if i traded him to raw today? what would raw be allowed to do with him?

and what if he wasn't in the database until after he got called up?

I don't agree with you. We have minor league limits and they should be consistent regardless of where the player is when you pick him up.

What we need more than anything is a set of rules that are easily accessible.

I wasn't really trying to turn this into a federal case. I was simply asking the question since I can't look it up myself.

But, I do disagree that the rules are consistent. If I promote a guy up to my major league team from my minors, can I send him back down to my minor leagues the next week if he still meets eligibility requirements and even though he hasn't actually been sent back to the minors?

I believe the answer is no to that one. Which is why I cut Glen Perkins earlier this year. Can I pick Perkins back up and stick him in my minors?

Which is why I ask the question. You can pick up a major leaguer and stick him in your minors, but you can't demote a guy from your major league roster to the minors. To me, it doesn't make sense.
