If Pie is called up, I hope it means Jones has been traded and not Jones is the everyday RF.

Might very well be Murton that is traded.

I hope it isn't that because that also means Jones is the everyday RF.

I read Bleedcubbieblue somewhat often, but I don't really know the answer to this question: how reliable is Al when it comes to stuff like this?

That's what I was thinking. I haven't seen anything anywhere about this, other than his blog. I won't hold my breath, because even if this does happen, there's no guarantee that Lou is going to start Pie everyday like he should be.

And why would someone who has a blog get "inside information" before Bruce Miles or other writters that cover the Cubs?

My guess is that Bruce won't comment on it until its official.

I'm pretty sure that if Pie is called up, Floyd will be headed to the DL.

Sounds about right.

Given the current state of affairs, our everyday right fielder should be Angel Pagan.

Call up Pie

Trade Jones for anything

Put Floyd on DL

Platoon Pie and Pagan in CF (I'd prefer they just put Pie out there all the time, but I'm sure the Cubs aren't willing to concede the season)

Murton in RF everyday

This is probably the best-case scenario...not that we'd have a good OF, but it'd probably be the best it could be.

Jones is a better RF than Murt and I don't think it's all that close.

I'm sick of Jacque. Murton's not great but if I have to see Jacque make the same 5th-grade mistakes at bat and in the field anymore I'm going to put a brick through my TV.

Nothing personal, Andy, but WTF????????

How in the heck to figure that putting a more talented player in CF everyday is "conceding" the season? I've never heard the argument that putting inferior players out on the field is somehow a better way to go about winning games? Seriously!!!

Pie is MLB ready. I thought it was obvious when he was up. He doesn't walk as much as you'd like, but that doesn't mean that he's not better then half the OF the Cubs continue to trot out there.

Pie should be called up, he should start everyday. And by doing that you improve your chances of winning, IMHO.

I agree that you play Pie every day. He's meant to be your everyday CF going forward and you let him grow into it now. However, there's legit concern that he's hitting .156/.229/.219 against lefties (and .256/.322/.327 last year). Pagan was awful against lefties last year but has been decent this year.

The Cubs would look at playing Pie everyday as a concession of the season and would platoon him with the guy with better numbers vs LHP. I wouldn't, they do. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't know that it's really a"legit concern." It's a small sample size. And he wasn't being played everyday. He's a young player. Hitting both left and right hand pitching has never really been a problem with him.

I also think that part of those numbers reflect not playing everyday. Pie was not used properly when up the last time. IMHO, he's a better player then both Jones and Pagan. For that reason, I see no issue with letting him play everyday and developing further in the ML. I also believe that it makes the Cubs a better team. (Especially defensively)

Yup. You can almost say that Pie will drive in runs with his glove by saving the other team from scoring.

But seriously. I would not mind a Soriano/Pie/Pagan outfield, if that's what it has to come to. I don't think it will happen, though.

Really? I Know our outfielders are bad, but come on? Pagan has never shown any promise. That's why we were able to buy him from the Mets for cents on the dollar.

Who do you want out there? "Swingin for the Fences Every $@%#ing AB" Jones? Murton, who cant even catch an easy pop-up?

Or a disabled Cliff Floyd?

Why would it not be a legitimate concern? His minor league numbers this year and last year do not represent all that small of a sample size. His numbers against lefties the last couple years (2005 in West Tenn, 2006 in Iowa, 2007 in Iowa and 2007 in Chicago) are .240 BA / .297 OBP / .345 SLG. I don't see why you think this is no problem. The fact that he's doing even worse most recently is not very encouraging. Again, I'd play him every day too but I'm not sure how someone would dismiss this.

I'd put Sori in RF, Pie in CF, and Murton in LF. That's the best overall offensivedefensive arrangement we could field in the OF.

they better be playing Pie everyday in center for the rest of the year. Let him develope against both righties and lefties and see what he can do. Murton and Jones in right for now until one of them is traded. Please go jones

nah, if ur gonna move fonso to right, floyd would be just as good at D as Murt, and way better at offense, Murton is trash and shouldnt be anywhere near the starting lineup. Sori/Pie/Floyd should be the OF, while floyd is hurt (ugh) we should use Jones I guess, lol I sadly think DeRo RF, Riot 2B, Izzy SS, may be the best choice until floyd is healthy. anyway, Tyler Colvin will fill out our outfield in a year or two and we should be set:

2008/2009

1. A. Soriano (LF)

2. E. Patterson (2B) (Good pop, great contact hitter, lots of speed)

3. D. Lee (1B)

4. A. Ramirez (3B)

5. Wieters © (Great hitter, both power and average, rocket arm, great D)

6. Colvin (RF) (Great swing, great average hitter, good power, has speed)

7. Pie (CF) (The Gem)

8. Theriot/Izturis/??? SS

Thats a solid team, with lots of speed and power

1. Soriano (.280-.300avg, 30-40hr, 80-100rbi, 30-40sb, 100+r)

2. Patterson (.285-.310avg, 15-20hr, 70-80rbi, 50-60sb, 90-100r)

3. Lee (.300-.330avg, 30-40hr, 90-120rbi, 10-15sb, 100+r)

4. Ramirez (.290-.320avg, 35-45hr, 100-130rbi, 0-3sb, 90-100+r)

5. Wieters (.285-.315avg, 20-30(35)hr, 80-100rbi, 0-3sb, 80-100r)

6. Colvin (.280-.290avg, 20-25hr, 75-85rbi, 15-20sb, 75-85r)

7. Pie (.290-.300avg, 15-20hr, 70-85rbi, 20-25sb, 75-85r)

ok well maybe im being a bit optimistic but it would be nice if our guys developed into what they were supposed to once in a while

I'm sorry, but those players are gone.

It appears that way. Have HR's gone way down in general this year?

Yes, homers are down quite a bit this year. But Lee and Soriano's lack of power still makes me want to jump off a bridge. Jones only has 2 also, but he sucks.
