Paul Sullivan proved his incompetence again today by suggesting that the set lineup Lou ought to use would bat ARam 3rd, Floyd 4th, and Lee 5th with Marquis being used as the DH in the AL cities. Marquis is a good hitter for a pitcher, but he shouldn't be used over Ward or Murton. He wrote that Lou could save Ward for pinch hitting later in the game??????????

did he really say this - and really mean it? Isn't the purpose of the DH so that the pitcher does not have to bat, and doesn't that take away most of the pinch hitting situations? If we have to pinch hit for a starter, that says wayyyyyy too much

Marquis as DH is ridiculous, but then again, it might go hand in hand with the rest of this season so far. I'm hoping he was joking.

Isnt the rule also if Marquis starts the game as a pitcher and hits, doesnt ever pitcher have to hit then. If this is the case it would really be ill-advised to have him hit while pitching. Not to mention he isnt the best hitting option the Cubs have on the bench.

 

Sullivan also clearly hasnt looked at Floyds stats against LHers or Murtons in the 2nd half(small sample size I know). Starting Floyd against LHers is almost as bad as starting Jones against LHers.

I think moving Derrek Lee to the fifth spot is ridiculous. Funny how he believes Soriano should stay in the leadoff spot because he's comfortable there but D-Lee should be moved down because a change of scenery would do him good. Um... far as I can tell, he's pretty comfortable in the #3 slot, despite going through a little slump right now.

 

He is spot on about Cesar Izturis. The less of that guy, the better. I'm getting pretty tired of his daily ground out on a 3-1 pitch that's out of the zone.

Sullivan comments suggests that he thinks ARam has been our best hitter and that's why he should bat 3rd. As for those of you who think Marquis as DH was tongue in cheek, I certainly didn't get that impression from the comments he wrote in the article.

Sullivan's entire writing style seems tongue-in-cheek to me. It's his de facto mode.
