Get rid of D.Lee, Zambrano, Ramirez, Soriano and any other veterans for top prospects and just rebuild. There is really no point to the season anymore. Get deals while we still can. Soriano = the worst signing in Cubs history, D.Lee = worthless in clutch situations, I would take Prince Fielder over this guy, Zambrano = headcase, overrated, and Ramirez = non-clutch stat padder.

I'm pretty sure trading DLee and Ramirez would get this team nowhere. Top prospects are no guarantee to pan out. I'd much rather keep guys who have a proven track record and are still in the prime of their career like DLee and Ramirez.

I love how so many people want to trade away guys that we can't trade away unless they give them permission to do so. Edited by tkenm356

Wasn't the Reds park named after you at one time?

I'm all for a fire sale, but if you trade all of those guys (the only one I can understand is Zambrano), then you're guaranteed of not winning anything for at least the next 10 years.

Yeah, like it took the Marlins 10 years to win another World Series.

the last sentence of that post is probably the worst thing i've ever seen on NSBB.

Actually, ^^^ that is probably the worst thing you have seen on NSBB

Hendry hands out NTC like their free samples. Following players have some form of a NTC

Derrek Lee

Aramis Ramirez

Alfonso Soriano

Ted Lilly

Scott Eyre

We have to compensate the following players if we do trade them:

Mark DeRosa ($50K assignment bonus for every time he's traded)

Henry Blanco ($400K)

Jacque Jones ($250K)

And how many other teams have won with "top prospects" right out of the gate? Hate to sound like Captain Obvious, but prospects are hit and miss. The Marlins hit the jackpot with the players that they got. And if Hendry is still the GM if a fire sale were to take place (which is highly unlikely in the first place), I doubt we'd get the best prospects available anyway.

I don't consider 10 years "right out of the gate". If prospects haven't matured within 10 years something went wrong.

Since we don't have any "Top" prospects outside of Pie, maybe we could rebuild with the following animal's that have opposable thumbs

Bornean Orangutan -

Chimpanzees

Cebids

Koala -

Opossum -

Giant Panda -

Troodon

Raccoon -

The Marlins still had Beckett, Burnett, Penny, and Pavano in his best season. They also happened to have a worse DLee then we have right now. We do not have a dominant pitching staff and even if we traded Dlee and ramirez for top prospect pitchers there is no guarantee they would pan out. The cubs dont have the best track record of developing pitchers.

But we do have a track record of destroying them...so we got that going for us...........

Really? I thought they had developed more pitchers than most organizations.

Not that the firesale helped all that much. IIRC, the only thing they got in return during the first firesale that actually helped in 2003 was DLee.

can we lock synergy, sunnydoo and JeffH in a room together and see who survives?

If we do a good job making it airtight, we'll know real quickly.

ya, we just trade them for veterans that will flop on their face.

Mitre, Nolasco, and Pinto for Pierre.

2 never will bes + Tavarez and Willis to the Fish for Alf and Clement.

I say we stop trading with the Fish for a while. Have seen first hand this week why this is bad.

Well, that proves my point even more. It's idiotic to say if we get rid of our good players we won't win for 10 years. Most of the players on the Cubs probably won't even be playing in 10 years.

Yeah, that DLee for Hee Seop Choi trade is really biting us in the ass right about now.
