Am I the only one who isn't ready to call the season over?

It's freaking May 31st for crying out loud. Get a grip people.

I agree. Its not like we have to be much better than .500 to take the division. Then you just hope you can get hot at the right time. A couple of small trades could probably help things. If nothing else let the firesale occur after Hendry is gone.

I've been overly optimistic all season. I really do think they can take it but this team also looks like its quit.

you have? You IM me every game acting like the sky is falling

I wasn't aware laughing about how bad they're doing and talking about fake rallies qualified as sky falling.

i'll have to cut and paste one of our conversations here sometime

If they're .500 by the All Star break they are still very much in the NL Central hunt, and considering they have a + total run differential for the season that is not an unobtainable goal by any means.

They're not hopeless. Flawed, but not hopeless.

All this is true, but it's also the same story that was told in 2005 and 2006. At some point it's got to be less about "it's not over yet" and more about winning ballgames. The nature of the baseball season, especially with 6 divisions and 2 wild cards, means most teams will technically be in it well into late summer. But that doesn't justify pissing away April and May, and doesn't make it wrong for fans to get pissed off about a team pissing away April and May.

Frankly I find it insulting when people tell disappointed Cubs fans to get a grip because it's early. This isn't some perennial contender having an off month. If the Cubs aren't running away with things, the safest thing to assume is they will come up short.

1969 calling to remind us that even if the Cubs are running away with things they'll still fall short.

I mmissed the first cpl of inning yesterday, Len and Bob were talking about line-up changes Lou had implemented, what were they? I saw no difference Soriaono was still leading off right? Help me out here (other than Izzy out at SS)

Floyd hit 4th, Ramirez was dropped to 5th, and Blanco caught (news mainly since he normally starts only when Zambrano pitches).

It was great. We bounced back from playing "our worst game of the year" and played even worse. It was magical...
