Wade Miller, working his way back to the Cubs rotation after being sidelined for a month by back spasms, threw 89 pitches, 54 for strikes, in a six-inning stint against the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A Astros affiliate owned by Nolan Ryan. He will join the team in San Diego on Tuesday and thinks he's once again ready for big-league action.

Give him a start! Then, trade him and Jones to the Yankees for the strugglig Abreu and cash.

If you read the article, nowhere does it say he's been called up. Just that he thinks he's ready and that he's back. He could once again just be up to do a side session in front of Uncle Larry.

I felt it was ambiguously worded and I know other people seem to think so too.

Wood "re-joined" the club too over the weekend. Think he's going to pitch anytime soon?

Make that lots of cash to cover Abreu's salary.

That's a great idea. Even if you have to throw in Marshall or Murton.

Maybe he's added a knuckleball to his repertoire? Wakefield pitches anywhere from the 50's to the mid-80's with regularity and is still fairly successful.

Watching his pitiful results from earlier in the season, I thought adding a knuckleball would have been a good move on his part.

Did anything come of this?

Apparantly he's going to make one last minor league appearance. I believe Hendry will look to trade him by then, or he will grant him his release after X amount of days with no action.

From Olney's blog at ESPN.com:

A lot of Cubs were stranded on Monday, and Lou Piniella is looking for answers, writes Dave Van Dyck. Piniella is not contemplating changes in the bullpen, because, as he calmly pointed out, there are not a lot of changes to make.

Within this notebook, there is word from Jim Hendry that he's allowed to add payroll before the July 31 trade deadline. And if you're Carlos Zambrano and still waiting for your contract to be finished, maybe you take that with a grain of salt. There is word within the same notebook that Wade Miller's time with the Cubs may be over.
