It's his team. He had all the money in the world to build it. It's his high priced "pen" (among other things) that he said was "fixed" that's killing this team. There's not a lot of reason for hope in the minor league system he built and oversees.

He's had his chance and now it's time for him to go.

Any way the Brewer GM can be stolen?

Sure would have been nice to have had Rocky Cherry to come in and pitch the 9th there...not being a save situation and all.

Hendry should be fired two years ago, or last season at the very least. Having him around this past offseason to hand out his hideous backloaded contracts virtually guarantees that the Cubs won't be signing any more big free agents the next few years. If the new owners want to pennypinch, who knows how bad it could get.

I say it's time for a FIRE SALE!

I just vote for massive layoffs.

It might be time to outsource. I hear Japanese players can equal this level of production for pennies compared to what our guys get paid over here.

Trade Lee, Ramirez, Zambrano, Soriano. Get rid of all our top players and get all top prospects. There is no use to keeping them. We are never going to compete. This is a team of losers. Always has been.

I really have to wonder what kind of leash he has this year.

The ownership situation complicates matters, since any new owner is likely to want to completely overhaul the front office with his own people, meaning any Hendry replacement is going to be short-term. However, given the nature of how PR influences decisions in the sports world, I could see the current regime try to stave off a fan revolt by getting rid of Hendry sooner rather than later.

But what I don't see are a series of firings that will force the Cubs to pay two people for the same job. They aren't going to cut a bunch of veterans with contracts, or coaches.

I'm wondering if Hendry can last until the all star break if this team remains under .500.

I don't think he'll be fired since the Cubs are going to be sold at the end of the year. I just look forward to the day the Cubs are sold and the day the new owner overhauls the team. I'm so tired of this crap year after year. I'm hoping we get an owner in who understands that making the same mistakes year after year isn't going to win you a championship.

I don't think McDonough will fire him. Which is a shame.

Whoever buys the team should fire every single employee affiliated with scouting and player development. The organizational philosiphy needs to be purged.

Player development? Yes. Scouting? No.

Why should anyone be exempt for a massive, organization-wide failure to develop ML talent?

Because Wilken and his scouts just came in last year. And Wilken has one of the best track records in the game.

Okay, everyone who arrived with Wilken can stay. Everyone who was here pre Wilken (including Oneri Flieta) should be axed.

I'd be fine with Wilken and his people staying and EVERYBODY else going. But I don't see it happening that cleanly. I just hope the Hendry/Hughes types are gone first and foremost.

Why wouldn't new ownership want a fresh start? It's not like the guys here have any real positive track record to speak of.

I want everyone gone. Everyone. This is a rudderless ship with no real plan to find direction.

Yeah, I don't either. I believe Wilken and Hendry are good friends.

I'm pretty sure that won't matter if Hendry is sacked in the offseason. Which barring a postseason appearance he should be.

The fact that Tim Wilken actually accepted a job offer from the Chicago Cubs organization calls his judgement into question.

They might want a fresh start, but what you're proposing is firing every coach in the system, plus a few assorted others. No ownership group could possibly hire a GM who could do that in a single season, and only maybe in 2-3 seasons. There's simply no way to have a good chance to find, interview and hire that many people while at the same time trying to get done the business of the ML offseason.

It really doesn't matter how good or bad Wilken is. If the same development people are in place, and the same GM, then the end result is still going to be the same. We're still not going to develop any kind of consistent ML talent.

When was the last time the Cubs developed a really, really good position player? Grace?

That fact that I became a fan of this organization twenty years ago calls my judgement into question.
