Relief pitchers get very little attention, unless they blow leads. So it's no wonder few have heard anything about the Cubs' bullpen. While its record is 1-6, it had gone 15 games from April 13 until Saturday without allowing an inherited runner to score, a streak that made it the best in baseball with a 91.5 percent success rate.

Neal Cotts finally allowed a run charged to fellow reliever Rocky Cherry on Saturday, but that failure only highlighted the previous successes.

Best in the bullpen at holding inherited runners is Michael Wuertz, who has left all 10 stranded. Bob Howry has left six on the bases. And even closer Ryan Dempster has stopped four from scoring.

That's all well and good but all that shows is that the Cubs relievers allow their own runners to score rather than other pitchers' runners. The bullpen still has a 1-6 record.

Not directed towards you 98, rather the writer of the article.
