Explain why the rainout was finished? when did the rule change for suspending the game after 5 2/3 inning meant giving the lead team the win?

I believe it was this past year.

I think the old rule would have awarded this game to Pitts, since they led the last complete inning.

It's explained in here some place.

Here is how the new procedure works: Once a game becomes official -- 4 1/2 innings if the home team is leading, five full if the visitors are leading -- and is called, it is picked up at precisely the same point at a later date as opposed to simply ending, if any of the following applies:

A. The score is tied.

B. The visiting team takes the lead in the top half of an inning, and the bottom half of that inning does not get completed.

In this case, it was option B.

im glad they won but i dont agree with that new rule

So instead the visiting team should be punished despite scoring and going ahead? Or maybe we should force the home team to play in poor conditions to get the inning in.

I do agree with the rule. It gives both teams a fair chance to win.

Absolutely a fair rule that probably should have been instigated long before this.

I agree, though it DID prevent the Cubs from finding their most impressive way to lose yet this season.

I think the rule change is almost right. I like that the home team gets the last at bat. However, I'd rather just see them complete the bottom half of the inning the game was suspended in. So today the game would have ended after they completed the 7th inning, then they would have taken a break, then come back to play the 2nd game. It seems more fair to me that way. I don't understand why they feel the need to go the complete 9 innings in that situation. After all, if the home team is ahead after 4.5 and the game is called....the home team just gets the win...there is no obligation to play the full 9 there. Something just doesn't seem balanced with the rule the way it stands. I think they should just let the home team get the last at bat after suspending the game and then move on.
