[it's not like they were just praising the red sox for making the decision...they were also mocking them for even thinking about making him start. for example...

Papelbon continues to impress and makes you wonder why the Red Sox ever considered moving this guy from the closer's role to a starting spot in the rotation.

if your two choices are 1) 200 innings from julian tavarez and 70 innings from papelbon or 2) 200 innings from papelbon and 70 from julian taverez, which would you choose?

Thank goodness I don't watch ESPN anymore.

Is it really sound analysis to assume Papelbon would be as good as a starter throwing 200 IP as he is throwing 70 relief innings? I don't think so.

fine. would you rather have 70 awesome innings from papelbon or 200 very good innings from papelbon?

Is it really that simple? I don't think so.

Not sure what Gorzelanny did to upset blue but it must've been a winner. 1H through 2.2 and then nothing gets called for a strike any longer.

i got EI recently, and it's kinda annoying to watch the games with your guys in it. sometimes it's just easier to check box scores at the end of the day.

Agreed. It's especially annoying when Fielder misses at a pitch, it's ruled a foul and then he rips an RBI single. :(

No kidding. Matt Cain REALLY sucked tonight. Even Adam Eaton was hitting rocket line drive outs off him tonight. Luckily, Jimmy Rollins has 2 triples off him tonight to ease the damage.

damn it, i can't make up any ground...teix homers and then wright hits a three run shot. i may be headed to 2-3.

You should make a trade for a couple of power bats

I don't think its real clear what would happen if Papelbon started. He might dominate, he might be decent, he might get hurt, he might suck. Its a little different than an established starter that gets moved to closer (like Smoltz). I would have to look at his minor league numbers to judge that better.

That being said, I agree that you can't really declare this a stroke of brilliance either. With the Red Sox offense, it may not really matter.

if it takes him two days to recover from a 36 pitch outing, they may as well give him four days to recover from a 100 pitch outing. i don't know what the deal was tonight...

He probably won't be able to go 200 IP in his first year starting but I'm sure he could handle 150 while pitching better than a #5 starter.

In one day I go from first to fourth in the league in scoring for the year. Still a comfortable lead in this week's matchup (although a one start deficit the remainder of the week).

wow, yea, I would start him. Those high A numbers are eye-popping.

Unless the offense explodes I'll be 2-3 after the week. All 7 starters have thrown and I have to endure 3 from the opponent.

Dear Kei Igawa,

Could you please suck any more?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

0-5....

This is ABSURD!!! hahahaha.. My team is 8th in total points, and breakdown I'd be almost .500, but 0-5 i'll stand after this week. Amazing. I've never started worse than 2-3 I don't believe.

Gotta love my hitters thus far today:

13-26, 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 8 R, 5 BB, 5 KO, 20 TB

With my two starts today, I may have a 90 pt day.

You know you are having an odd week when one of your closers records a 2 out save when your team scored 15 runs.

Roy Halladay has outscored Matt Cain so far this week by 56 points. Halladay has another start to improve on that.

Don't look now, but KC is scoring some runs lately.

Can't be any worse than Igawa and his -22.5

At least, I hope not.
