It would benefit the Cubs greatly to have Theriot demonstrate that he can play shortstop adequately.

 

As such, I expect him to commit three errors today.

 

Theriot could play GG SS today, and go 5-5 with the game winning HR, and still find himself on the bench Friday.

I agree. I was just responding to the criticism of Lou at this point. I hope Lou can overcome his history and begin to see what the problems are and where the solutions lie.

 

The only solution might be usurping control from Hendry and overhauling the roster.

It's going to be played. They just have to wait for the rain to stop first. Tom Skilling, WGN meteorologist, just said that the rain is leaving the area (it may sprinkle during the game but it shouldn't be enough to cause a delay once things get started).

In fairness to Lou, I think he is showing now that he has the ability to change in midstream. Bruce Miles just said that Lou thought, in Spring Training, Theriot played best on the right of the infield. Putting Theriot at SS proves that he understands that Ryan's bat is needed in the lineup and that Izturis has been under performing both on offense and defense.

 

The way it's being presented on WGN, it appears that SS is Theriot's to lose now.

So when Izterrible loses his job, that will be 4 Mil on the bench, add in extra $$$ that Floyd will get, plus the $$$ Prior is getting...we will have a ton of dead money. Money that could have been used to close the Zambrano deal before the tribune sale.

I agree but games usually don't get started while it's raining. The Cubs are holding it up because this is their call before the game starts (afterwards the umps dictate the delays). Anyway, this is a time when extra concessions are sold. lol, it's win-win for the Cubs. ;)

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs this afternoon issued the following update on right-handed pitcher Mark Prior:

 

Mark Prior yesterday underwent successful right shoulder arthroscopy performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL. During the arthroscopy, Dr. Andrews performed a debridement of Mark’s right rotator cuff as well as repair of labral and capsular injuries in his right shoulder.

 

Mark today began a comprehensive rehabilitation program in Birmingham overseen by Dr. Andrews and the Cubs medical staff.

 

Mark will not pitch in 2007 and will continue his rehabilitation program into the offseason.
