I had a lot of confidence in Hill coming into the season, but if you told me that on April 19th I'd be more comfortable with his starts than Zambrano's starts, I'd have said you were nuts.

This team should and will win today...Then lose tomorrow, then win on Saturday, followed by a loss on Sunday....ETC....

At this point I trust both of our lefties over Zambrano.

Thanks Laura, my home computer has BOMBED> I would not have started this until this morning. You're the best.

Ugh -- hope you get it up & running today!

Tomorrow's game thread is all yours.

Braves 1

Cubs 0

With a 9th inning bases loaded nobody out threat, only to hit into a triple play.

The triple play shall unfold thusly:

Matt Murton is on 3rd base, Derrek Lee on 2nd, and A-Ram on 1st. Jacque Jones at bat.

Closer Bob Wickman uncorks a wild pitch to the back stop. Murton panics or a second before stumbling towards home, where he is tagged out by 10 feet. In the mean time, Lee attempts to take third and Ramirez second, but Lee gets caught in a run down, and both Derrek and Aramis end up standing on second, where Lee is tagged out. Thinking the ballgame is over, Ramirez starts trotting back to the dugout where he is tagged for the third out.

After this play, NSBB posters will blame Jacque for the loss

Sounds like a typical Cubs game to me...

I don't think this is very likely, but against the left-hander it is the day to move Pie down the lineup and start Murton and Theriot in the outfield like the last time they faced a left-hander. Maybe a lineup of: Theriot/Murton/Lee/Ramirez/Barrett/DeRosa/Pie/Izturis. I don't mind that Pie is batting leadoff right now, but I hope they pay attention to his minor league splits and move him down accordingly against a pitcher he is likely to struggle against.

LHP Rich Hill (2-0, 0.64 ERA)

In his past eight starts, he is 5-1 with a 1.61 ERA.

Scouting Report:

Cubs: You might as well precede Hill's name with the term, "the left-handed ace of the Cubs." And that's no knock on Ted Lilly. Hill has been masterful since coming up late last season and is coming off a seven-inning shutout of the Reds after being forced to wait nine days between starts. He struck out five, but did walk four. Hill won his only start against Atlanta last season, allowing one run and striking out six over 5 2/3 innings.

He's the ace and it has nothing to do with being a LHP.

You'll get zero agruements with that statement.

If we somehow lose this game, I quit baseball.

2-0 0.67 vs 0-2 12.96 should be as big a slam dunk as anything ever.

Once again we look to Hill to step up.

Will Lou put Pie in the lead-off spot against the lefty or will The Riot bat lead-off?

Piniella suggested in his post game comments that he'd move Pie down in the order against LH starters.

I wouldn't be surprised...

I can't say that I'd be surprised, but I'm hopeful that he pitches well and they score a lot of runs!
