Ryan Freel-OF-Reds Apr. 16 - 5:15 pm et

Ryan Freel will make $7 million over two years under the terms of his two-year extension agreed to on Monday.

GM Wayne Krivsky was smart to lock him up at that price. Even if Freel reverts to a superutility role at some point, he'll be worth $3 million in 2008 and $4 million in 2009. As before, he'll be eligible for free agency for the first time after 2009.

Did Freel convince Krivsky that he could pitch in relief?

Anybody else see the Reds letting Dunn walk so Hamilton could become a full-time OF?

Their best lineup is w/ Freel at 2B and Phillips at SS, with Hamilton in CF.

I have a feeling that they will end up going that route once they feel comfortable playing Hamilton everyday.

Freel hasn't exactly impressed in CF so far.

What would the problem be with keeping Dunn? He plays LF.

i don't see them letting dunn walk without a fight.

he can play 1B, as well. and he's better than pickin machine or conine.

I never understood why the Reds haven't done a Junior/Freel/Hamilton OFer, with Dunn at 1st base. I mean there is two others players that I've seen that have been worse OFers then Dunn; Todd Hundley and Lance Berkman. Obviously, the aboveforementioned would give the Reds a better chance to win, over having Conine and/or Hatte in the lineup.

Two words, Joey Votto. PECOTA has him at 284/366/511 THIS YEAR if he were in the majors. His MLE last year was 312/393/564. First base is going to be locked up in Cinci for a long time.

Frankly, even before Hamilton, I was thinking the Reds were going to let Dunn walk. Hamilton's possible emergence and good story makes it a lot easier.

And the Reds have us to thank

I think they'll let him walk b/c they won't get decent value for him if they trad him.
