Nice to keep that runner out of scoring position. Pretty awful attempt at bunting by Hensley, though.

Look at Marcus Giles... he could be ours.

do I hear a "Padres suck" chant?

Somehow I don't think our fans should be chanting that the Padres suck considering they went 7-0 against the Cubs last year.

Lets face it, most Cubs fans aren't exactly known for their intellect.

It seems like I'm alone here, but I'm a big fan of the hit and run so long as the batter's objective is to hit the ball on the ground.

Nice job by Marquis so far. He's throwing a lot of pitches, but if he can go 6 and put up a decent line I'll be satisfied.

trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise.

Really?

Neither is trying to hit the ball in the air. more hits will come via the ground than air.

Obviously if you are leaving line drives out of the conversation

you can't leave line drives out of the equation. the intent should be to hit line drives all of the time.

Obviously.

But your still more likely to get a hit on the ground vs. a fly ball.

i never said you should try to hit fly balls. i believe that trying to hit fly balls is counter-productive as well. what i said is that you should never try to hit ground balls. regardless of the situation--in any situation, a line drive is going to generally be most productive.

I agree in most situations, but not necessarilly in a hit-and-run. With the infield moving, a ball on the ground can easily be a base hit. Or you can line into a DP like barrett just did.

minimizing the amount of times you attempt to hit line drives is never a wise decision. it will decrease your overall runs scored throughout the course of the year, which will decrease your total wins. assuming that a line drive is going to be a line drive out is also unwise.

for one, with the infield NOT moving that line drive might not have been a DP, and two, that was unlucky. a ball hit that hard will usually find a gap, leading to more runs. hindsight is 20/20.

i'll take barrett's line drive every day of the week than a weak groundball.

do I hear a "Padres suck" chant?

No, just the stupid left field/right field thing.

I hate the bleachers.

Please explain.

Right field bleachers looks at LF bleachers and chants "Left Field Sucks."

Vice Versa

Bleacher fans randomly chat "Left Field Sucks" or "Right Field Sucks" 3-syllable chants, usually in the middle of ABs.

Bleacher fans in left field chant "right field sucks!" and vice versa. Despite the fact I frequently sit in the bleachers, I'm not a fan of the chant.

How intelligent. Let's chant that our own fans suck.
