If we're gonna have appreciation threads. We need a Mark Derosa one.

This guy is hitting like a #3 out of the gate. And he's helping to contribute to some nice early wins. Early wins are great, as you can get some nice distance between yourself and your rivals. He plays great D at 2B, has made some stellar plays at 3B too. And is hitting .462 with 2 HR already, and 5 RBI.

It's when you have a Mark Derosa hitting 6 or 7 that you have a pretty darn good offense.

I'll admit, if he keeps it up I'm going to have to eat some serious crow, but mmm mmm good crow it is...

Would have to be one of the most remarkable turnarounds of a career in history. I don't know what the hitting coach of the Rangers did to him, but damn it, I want to steal the guy away from them. Because right now DeRosa is swinging the bat as good as anyone in the league.

Having said that, there must be something to **our** hitting coach because not only is DeRosa playing well above what I expected, but Cesar has left me in need of a jaw lift...

He's a great surprise. My friend in Dallas, a big Rangers fan, can't believe it. All the talk was on Soriano, Floyd, Marquis, etc., but DeRosa has been the one to really watch. I hope he keeps it up.... Might have to change my sig to DeRosaFan

Good point on Izturis. I've never been a big fan, thought he was overrated, but if he produces all year, that'll be something.

I'm certainly not convinced on Cesar yet, and his .300/.333/.500 line is only going to stay awesome if that slugging stayed there, which we know it won't, but still, I was expecting numbers so bad I'd long for Neifi. And he still may do that, but so far I haven't felt like he was just lucky, he's swinging the bat well.

Speaking of Izturis. I'm glad he's doing well. Some of us ::cough cough:: thought that based on his history some of you ::cough cough:: were giving him an unfair shake.

It's amazing how one week can sway an opinion.

It's five games. If he goes 0-4 tomorrow, he'll be hitting .250/.288.

Oh man, I can't imagine anyone playing bad enough for me to long for Neifi... what a train wreck.

Yet some people thought Izturis would be worse offensively than Neifi. I'm not sayin he'll be above average for a SS. But I think he's OBP will be in the .340 range and his average at .280 or so. He's already hit alot into deep outfield. But anyway. ::ehem:: Mark Derosa. So, he's good. 8-)

True. But he'll probably settle somewhere around .275/.335 that my prediction for Izturis this year.

That's an ISOD of 60, which he has never had before. What makes you think he'll do any of what you just said?

But you'll be voting for Iz and DeRosa on the all-star ballot I hope?

Reyes and Chase. Sorry.

I along with a few other people have argued that if you look at his progression in 2005, and 2006 before he got injured he had #'s much better than his "carrer" #'s. Meaning he was improving. And the injury hampered him. I'll stand by that prediction for this year.

Well, his '05 pre-All Star line was .275/.322, so he had an ISOD of 47 at that point. I suppose one of 60 isn't out of the question if (big word there) he has progressed as a hitter.

I'm not saying he's going to put up a great line, but even a bad line is much better than I expected. I was really thinking we'd get .240/.270/.300/.570 out of him.

I hope he can keep it up, just watching him swing the bat I feel like he has more of an idea of what he's doing than I ever did in the past.

Last season they had Derosa change his swing to become alot more like Chris Young's (read it somewhere in the offseason). So ever since then, knowing there was a change in his swing that differred from previous years, i've been kind of cautiously optimistic that last year wasn't just a typical career year but one that he could sustain in the future.

the guy that we were sitting in front of at the game yesterday was also a Cub fan. After DeRosa hit the triple, he said something like "ok, I guess I like this guy after all. maybe he won't be so bad"

Let's hope he keeps it up today and we get a cub sweep!
