It looks like the Iowa Cubs will have a very interesting team. I see one major hole in their infield. With Ronny Cedeno set in Chicago as a backup, who is left in Iowa?

Candidates:

Tomas Perez

Scott Moore

Carlos Rojas

Maybe this is why the rumors persist about Barmes and Andino.

Am I missing other candidates?

Do we have a kid from The Citadel who plays SS? My cousin, a Citadel grad, was telling me about him but I have never heard his name (and can't recall it right now either).

What about Bobby Hill? Someone posted in the minor league forum that he was re-signed within the past week or so (after peeviously being sent home for failing his physical due to a back injury), and he was listed as a shortstop.

How many years has it been since Hill was an everyday shortstop?

Matt Matulia. Got drafted last year (not in the first 10 rounds, by memory I'm thinking somewhere in the round 20-25 area), signed, and played for Boise.

I believe it's been several, but he was listed as a shortstop in the transaction announcement I referred to, which is what made me wonder.

With SS that wide open, I'd hope Moore gets all the playing time there he can handle. There's no reason not to work on maximizing his value.

It'll be Carlos Rojas and Tomas Perez, imo. I'm sure Fontenot and Moore will get a few games at SS over the season.

The Cubs still have Fontenot? Why did I think he left as a FA?

I sure hope Moore sees a lot of time at SS, but it will probably be Rojas.

Heh, probably because the Cubs don't seem to be big Fontenot fans.
