Why the heck is Jones batting second?

Correction: Why the heck was Jones batting second? He grounded out weakly to second while I was typing that... as expected.

Cubs leading the CL in starters ERA

Sure, at just under 5.

Yes, but the CL is very offense oriented

I understand, but it's still not something to brag about.

Why not? If the Cubs are doing something better than every single one of their peer group, they deserve some credit.

What is more important? The actual number of the statistic itself or how that statistic compares to the rest of their peer group?

They have been the best; It's hard not to take some positive out of it. It's surprising when you consider how well the Angels have pitched against the Cubs... More than anything, I think it shows that Cubs starters are keeping the ball on the ground, more often than not. It is really easy to give up a lot of homeruns in AZ. Limiting the walks helps as well.

When it comes to the frequency with which they're giving up runs, I would lean toward the number itself. I don't put a lot of stock in ST numbers, but just because everyone else is not good doesn't mean you should be satisfied with being not quite as bad.

First chance to see Marquis this year, curious to see if he looks any different.

Seems to be doing a good job of keeping the ball down so far.

But how do you know it speaks to a team pitching "badly" rather than how ideal the hitting conditions have been this spring? Or are at these spring parks normally anyway?
