I'm considering buying one and getting it modded by a friend of mine but if I do that, I would assume that would negate the warranty on the 360. I have heard some things about the 360 breaking down at a high rate (namely in the thread in Rants) and I wouldn't want to risk having my 360 break down after a couple months and I have to buy a new one.

NOTE: This is not a poll to figure out whether or not you like the games of the 360 or would prefer a Wii or PS3 because I am not interested in those machines. I am only interesting in knowing if your 360 has broken down or not.

Thanks.

i've only had my 360 for a few months. no problems so far. The only problem I've heard that can happen regularly that my friend told me is if you leave in a disc and leave the system on for a long period of time (a day or two, which sounds silly, but my roommate does that ALL the time and it pisses me off) then it can leave a nasty scratch on the disc. Also if you have it on in the upright position and then switch it ot the horizontal position while it's still on i heard it can do worse damage to the disc. My roommate has had his since the day it came out and he hasn't had any problems. then again he's a video game freak and takes care of everything with extreme precision, so...

I voted no, but that's because I know you're talking technically speaking. It's been pretty reliable for me. I don't know anyone who's had problems with it either. However, I haven't touched the thing in months. It's collecting dust for two reasons: I'm enjoying the Wii much better, and I guess I wasn't as interested in the 360 and what it had to offer as I thought. I'd still get one over a PS3 though.

I don't have one, but a buddy of mine had two that bricked in a span of 2 months. On the other hand, both my neighbors have them and they seem to be fine.

What do you mean by bricked?

I've had mine for 6 months or so and no problems besides online connection problems...but that could be the router. The machine has acted normally and hasn't frozen, scratched discs or anything like that.

i heard Microsoft did a big redesign of the 360 and those are aviable now, susposed to run much cooler and use less energy.

i also heard that there are 2 disc drives that they use and one is a lot more problematic than the other.

10 months of flawless operation, though use has been sporadic.

Something to consider though...most problems seem to be with the power supply, and the DVD drive. The power supply can be replaced easily. It doesn't take a whole lot of savvy to replace the DVD drive, as the XBox 360 is little more than a computer with a unique form factor. If it broke, you shouldn't necessarily have to buy a new one.

Had mine for about 11 months. No problems. My games would freeze up now and then when I used to keep it vertical. Now I keep it horizontal and haven't had a freeze up in months. Also have used it very heavily as a DVD player.

I saw somewhere that next month they're going to release the XBox 360 v2. It's supposed to have a 120gb hard drive, an HDMI output, and is supposed to run cooler and use less power, which should solve many of the problems other people have had. If you're going to get one, wait for these to come out!

That looks pretty slick. Any specific date for that release and will it be more expensive than the original?

I had mine for about 3 months before it crapped out. I've had some minor issues with the replacement, but nothing too troublesome.

Hmm...a bit more expensive but it does come with a 120 GB hard drive. I'll have to find out if my buddy would be able to mod this one (I would assume he would since it's still a 360). The large hard drive would also mean I wouldn't have to buy a separate hard drive to put in.
