The official box score has no error for Izturis, so all 4 runs charged to Wood are earned

Poor Woody. I wonder if it would have been scored that way in Mesa?

From the description of the play, it would have been the same way-it was a bloop apparently that Izturis couldn't get to. Especially if it didn't hit his glove (which from the story, it doesn't sound like it did) they would usually never call it an error.

There goes that Izturis, driving in runs with his glove again.

That's all right-he was too busy doing well with the bat like he has so far in ST :D

It's too bad he'll get it all out of his system before the season starts.

Wood

What kind of pitch is that grip for? It's not a standard fastball, curve or slider grip, that's for certain.

i don't know anything about pitch grips, but doesn't wood use a slurve now instead of a curve/slider?

Changeup?

Gotta be. I think it's interesting that Kerry's mixing a changeup into his relief repertoire, though.

I think he added it last year or the year before, I think I remember hearing reports of a change up that was ridiculously slow compared to a 95mph heater during one of his rehab stints. Now that I think of it, it may have been when he was getting ready for his bullpen stint 2 years ago.

That's a circle-change. I wouldn't put too much stock into it as far as whether or not he'd use it in the reg. season, I didn't see the pitch move, but unless it develops into an out pitch, I doubt Wood as a reliever would use it in game situations.

I can't remember, but I thought he did that with the splitter as well a few years back.

Hmm...

He's not making his circle right, though. And the ball should be centered more under the ring finger on a circle change, shouldn't it? That almost looks like a straight palm ball.

There are relievers that use their full arsenal as relievers. Smoltz used all four of his pitches and Gagne threw at least three, including his devastating changeup.
