Do you read the entire thread before posting?

  1. 1. Do you read the entire thread before posting?

    • If my comment/question/answer is already there, I post anyway - Everyone has a right to their opinion!

    • If my comment/question/answer is already there, I do not post, unless I have something to add to it.

    • I'll skip reading an entire thread only if it's, like, 10 pages long. I just don't have the time. . .

    • It's a message board. I post, someone responds, I post, someone responds, etc. It doesn't matter if things get repeated.

(Options have some overlap. Obey standardized test rules: choose the answer that best fits)

In part 2 of Electron Blue's X-part series of polls on "The things that annoy him about internet message boards," we examine the role of the poster who shows up in a discussion entirely out of his element.

This isn't so much an issue on this board as it is on some others, but it still pops up. Do you read everything in a thread to see if your potential comment/question/answer has already appeared, or do you just dive right in?

Often times, it's a perfectly innocent habit of some people, not all that intrusive or annoying, but at it's worst, this pet-peeve of mine looks like this:

Poster 1: Hey does anyone know how to _____________

Poster 2: Yeah, just _________________

Poster 3: Good idea, or you could _______________

Poster 1: Thanks for the help guys, that worked great.

Poster 4: I know. Do this: ___________ (same advice as poster 2)

Poster 5: Didn't read the thread. Rea-ding Com-pre-hen-sion. Look it up!

Poster 6: Ah, lay off him, he's just trying to help.

Poster 4: YEAH $#%^@ GET OFF MY BACK UR ELZ

Forum Admin: Thread closed.

:) Like I said that's an extreme that NSBB doesn't have - but we've all seen it.

I'm not quite sure what response would equate to me, but I always read the whole thread unless it's a thread that is clearly unnecessary to read through (i.e. top 5 lists).

If I'm taking the time to respond and post, I'm taking the time to read the thread-the only time that I don't read a post that may help me is when they actually have posted while I'm trying to write my post.
