I know it well! I was wearing a Prior Jersey in an Oak Lawn Dominick's, around September 2003, and the butcher had the nerve to get on me. Not only was he being unprofessional he was offering unsolicited comments. I've had similar run-ins over the years... A lot of the South Side idiots feel it's their civic duty to tell you what team to root for.

I have no love for them.

That's a situation where you take business elsewhere and let management know why.

Since I don't live in Chicago, I've never had to deal with that too much. One comparable situation I had was at a restaurant here in Louisiana last December. I went into a restaurant wearing my Dallas Cowboys hat. My guess is the waiter was a Saints fan. As I sat down, not only did he take my drink order, but informed me the Cowboys sucked. I just smiled and said, "yeah...whatever." Everytime he came to the table, he had something to say about my being a fan of the Cowboys. Now normally, I'm a decent to good tipper, but today, I left the waiter a quarter and a note that said, "Here's a tip: When waiting tables, it's best not to annoy the people you're serving."

My bill was nearly $50 and this is a restaurant that I know has tip shares based on the price of the ticket. I'm pretty sure he had to pay for the right to wait on me that afternoon. Maybe he'll learn to keep his mouth shut. I don't mind a little good natured ribbing, especially from people that I consider friends, but his was quite annoying.

Haha, I'm glad you stuck it to him!

BTW, the Sox fan craziness happens here a lot. The fan base mirrors their management. They are outnumbered but they get mouthy and look for a fight.

Haha, What a idiot waiter..It's just common sense when your serving people to be nice and curteous so you get good tips..I just dont get it like all the Sox fans, when I wear my jersey, I hear " Cubs Suck" Its like wow do you feel great and manly now that you said they suck, do you think im going to change to a Sox fan because you told me that? No, I prefer to take showers and not live in a trailer with 13 kids..Most of the people are fans that don't watch the game or know any of the players on the team but take pride in puting other peoples teams down and caring more about hating than their own.White Trash.

Can't wait to see the Cubs on TV. I might have to get up early to watch this thing.

Yeah so that didn't happen. Kinda slept through the game.

How bad did the Cubs look today?

Starters didn't look terrible-Hill with a solo homer given up, but looked pretty good otherwise. Soriano was 3 of 3 with 2 doubles, and Murton added a pair of BB's. The pitching later was simply awful. It wasn't really as bad as the 13-2 score indicated though, and the starting lineup for the Cubs still looks all right.

Hitting was pretty bad as well. So far, I'm less than impressed, but I do know it's spring training.

Nah, we really haven't seen this team play. When we get to the point in Spring where the regulars are playing most of the game we'll be able to judge the progress.

There's little reason to panic. It's the "kids" that are really letting these games go. The only thing that bothers me a little is how anemic the "regulars'" batting has looked, but hey, it's the spring.

True but a hot bat in ST doesn't always translate to the start of the season (see Nomar in 2005 and Aramis in 2006). The truth is, we won't really know anything until they start playing the real games.

I'm just really eager to start watching meaningful games.

Also, IIRC, Lee's Spring Training in '05 was nothing spectacular, and look what he did in the regular season.

Lee hit .358/.477/.698/1.175 in ST of '05. It doesn't matter though, ST performance isn't much of a predictor of anything.

Well, then I guess I don't recall correctly.

These quotes by Lou sum up my feelings nicely.

"It'd be nice to win a ballgame once in a while..."

"Who likes to lose? ..."Teams that win the most games in Spring Training usually don't do nearly as well in the season, but... you'd like to see games be competitive, good baseball where the pitchers are making good pitches, your hitters are getting timely hitting, and if the other team beats you, so what?

"We're getting lopsided here..." "I can't do anything about it now. ...When I can do something about it is cut time, and then we'll do something about it, and hopefully quick."

The only thing I really cared about from this game was Rich Hill's outing, since it appears the Cubs aren't bright enough to guarantee him a starting spot. Sounds like he had solid control and threw well, so I'm happy.

Lou says he has a spot in the rotation. Prior and Miller (possibly Cotts) are battling for the last spot.
