Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson might miss at least the first month of the season and could be lost for the year because of possible nerve damage in his right arm, sources said Wednesday.

Johnson is scheduled to have an MRI today because of lingering pain that has prevented him from throwing at full speed since September.

The news makes one smile :D that Girardi is not our manager.

It makes me frown, since Johnson is a keeper on my fantasy team :headache:

I doubt this has anything to do with Girardi.

If you read the article, you'll see that his arm troubles began when Girardi sent him back into a game after an 82-minute rain delay.

I'm no doctor, but I don't think that caused it either. It's not like we're talking about with muscles, tendons, or ligaments. If his problem really is nerve damage, I would think that would take quite awhile to manifest, and would be due to something being wrong over time.

That said, that was a bad move on his part. I'm surprised that Girardi did that, you would think if anyone was sympathetic to pitchers in those kinds of situations, it would be a catcher.

Shades of Jon Lieber.

The Marlins seemed to think otherwise. I believe this was the move that sealed his fate.

I heard he may be back in as little as two months, but nobody can really put a timetable on it yet. I have him stashed away on my DL for the time being.
