I think Miller will beable to be an effective pitcher this year. And when I say effective, I mean the way he was pitching the last few starts for us. Very good control, and fooling some hitters.

However we won't have much room for him if Prior is healthy. Zam, Prior, Lilly, Hill, Marquis evens out a very nice rotation. .

By the reports coming out of camp Miller has lost quite a bit off his once powerful fastball. Sounds like he's throwing more smoke than gas to the tune of mid-80's fastball at best. Hopefully he's got enough in his delivery and is locating his pitches to keep the hitters guessing. All in all, he's still a bargain in this market. Hopefully he becomes a better pitcher for it. Cross your fingers for a better radio feed, too. Today's game was horrible.

What are the options with Miller? Is he tradeable if we don't have room in the rotation and he has increased his production to be a viable starter for other teams? Or will the Cubs give him his release so he can pick and choose who he signs with? The Cubs did invest money in him last year and this year, so it would seem to me that they should get something out of him if he has value.

I know Bruce has mentioned that releasing him is probably the easiest pill for the Cubs to swallow if there is a rotation logjam. But, I was curious if that would be the most likely scenario. A few teams could lose a starter to injury during the spring, which puts the Cubs in a pretty good bargaining position with the depth of #5 starters.

It also sounds like AAA could have quite a logjam of pitchers this year as well.

has floyd played yet? iirc, he hasnt been a starter yet, hope he's not hurt already

The team is holding him out for a few days as a precautionary measure-I believe I read that Floyd thinks that he's ready to go, but the team wants to be absolutely sure.

The answer depends on how the rest of Spring Training progresses. If all of the likely starters (Z, Lilly, Hill, Prior & Marquis) are healthy, and Miller proves to be healthy as well, I think the Cubs should trade him. However, I can see reasons why Hendry will wait. If Wuertz's soreness is more serious than initially thought, they may choose to shut him down for a while and stick Miller in the bullpen as insurance against an injury with Prior or someone else on the staff (they may choose this option even if Wuertz and Novoa are both healthy because they still have options). The way I see it, Hendry may be very reluctant to trade away a healthy pitcher because he's been caught short-handed too often over the last few seasons. It's a good problem to have...

The more I think about it, the more surprised I'd be if Hendry trades a healthy Miller in ST. He will probably want to see a few, Regular Season, starts from Prior before making a decision. If everything goes well, I could see Miller being traded by May.

Anyone know which Cubs are pitching besides Miller? :)

This is the quote from Bruce yesterday:

Saturday, it looks like Miller (starting), Dempster, O'Malley, Samardzija, Gallagher, Marmol and Anderson.

Gallagher was used yesterday-I think it was because Cotts was supposed to go 2 innings and didn't make it that far, so scratch Gallagher off that list. The others will probably go though.

Thanks. I was hoping they'd let Samardzija pitch on Sunday so I could watch him on WGN. Oh well, it'll still be good to get a non-Cubs opinion on him.

Hmmm. Mlb says 2:05 central. I'm sure Bruce could clear this up.

BTW, the pre-game show seems to be on now on mlb audio. So I'm certain it's 2:05.
