By day's end, the Atlanta Falcons will trade backup quarterback Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans, according to NFL sources. The Texans will surrender a second-round draft pick, and there could be other compensation involved.

I still would like the Bears to end up with a Grossman/Carr combination at QB next season.

I'd bet they give him away at this point.

Typical case of an organization blaming 100% of its problems on a QB.

I can understand why Houston is doing this. Carr has some baggage on him now that the Texans inflicted on him. From watching about half the Texans games last year, I thought the Houston line did a much better job of protecting him then ever before (still not a good job, but not nearly as bad as most of his previous years). Carr, however, looked scared. Even when the protection wasn't breaking down whatsoever, he wouldn't stay in and consistently make the throws, but would rather settle for the short check-down option. I'm not sure that Carr will ever be able to un-learn that in Houston-a change of scenery is probably what he needs at this point. Schaub doesn't have that baggage, and so can get the ball down the field more to their playmakers.

How is Schaub better than Carr? Man the Texans are dumb.

Mario Williams over Reggie Bush...LOL..Good one.

Lots of people think Schaub could start for most teams.

Hell, a lot of people think Schaub should start for his current team.

And he sure has an impressive career resume of 6TD's and a 69 rating to back it up.

This guy has been living off a few lights out preseason performances. All hype.

I hate to pull out the two word argument, but:

Sample. Size.

That cuts both ways though. Nobody can know if he's good or bad...and they sure can't know that he's better than Carr.

Then how does that sample size prove that Schaub is an upgrade over Carr or even Delhomme for that matter?

I like Schaub , but don't get why the Texans would do this deal when they could draft someone like Drew Stanton instead and not have to worry about giving him starter money. Schaub will want an extension.

It doesn't prove anything either way. The reason so many people are high on Schaub is that scouts who have watched him have raved on his abilities and he is a very fundamentally sound QB.

Now does that guarantee anything? No, but Carr has too much of a history in Houston - as CubColtPacer said - to turn things around now. That's likely the key to this trade.

Any QB in this draft beyond JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn is likely a two-three year project before they'll be ready to start and then there's reason to believe they won't be any good.

Schaub on the other hand, while costing more, should be better developed than the draftees and should be able to start now and succeed.

Speaking of history, this is the Texans and I'm confident this move(like many things they have done will go down the toilet for them). I guess they don't understand the concept of an Oline and running game.

Good point on them being the Texans, but I still stand by what I said before that if Peterson falls to them and they take him, the AD/Mario Williams duo is better than Reggie Bush/any DE in this draft.

It's true, though, that their line has gone from atrocious to terrible since last year and they really haven't improved (that I've seen) in the offseason.

First off, this is a different Texans group-they don't have the same GM as they did for even last year's draft. That could play a part in this move as well-Carr was the quarterback of the future with the old regime, and they may want to be trying to put a new look with the new GM.

Second-while I thought it was silly of them to pass up Reggie Bush last year, they did think they had a solid running game at the time. Domanick Davis was a very good back for them, and it was unfortunate that he got hurt and missed the entire year last year. Also, their O-line is getting better. They drafted a couple of O-lineman last year, and their line got better last year-it should continue to improve this year as those players get experience.

It is just a rumor I heard on another board, I hope it isn't true(for the Texans sake...poor fans)

I can't believe they would make that kind of mistake.

HOLY CRAP IT IS TRUE!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2807051

When the trade is completed, Atlanta and Houston will flip-flop first-round picks in April's draft, and Atlanta will receive Houston's second-round picks in 2007 and 2008. The deal likely will be completed later Wednesday afternoon. Houston has the No. 8 pick in the first round of the draft, while Atlanta is slotted 10th

Wow, the worst FO in football(even worse than Millen IMO)

I think that covers all the emotions I'm feeling for Texan fans right now. That is a pitifully bad trade.

Moving down from a few spots in the top 10 and giving up their next two 2nd rounders? Sad, very very sad.

I remember reading a study that found more pro-bowlers come from the 2nd round vs. the first. I wish I could find that article.

Mind you these are almost first round picks given that well they are the Texans.

In other news, Schaub could easily become the long-term option at QB that Carr was never going to be and be productive enough to make this trade look much better than you all think. As a Falcons fan, I wanted Schaub to be the starter going forward.
