It's all speculatin, but at least Rogers is willing to air out the other side of the story: that trading Zambrano could, in fact, be a positive move for the Cubs if it is done right.

jones might be a big key to the offense this year. he is for the most part the only regular starter who hits left handed (assuming floyd doesnt some how take left field away from murton). if jones can throw at all in rf, and hit around .280 with 25-30 hr, i will be very happy with him in rf.

Steve Finley shouldn't be an option and personally, I don't think he is. The Cubs may have checked him out when they thought Jones wanted out and had promised Soriano a corner spot. Now that it seems both Sori and Jones are open to trying CF, I think both would have to fail at the task before Finley becomes an option. Even then, I think the Cubs would have to belive that Pie is not ready.

What if the Los Angeles Angels would deal Ervin Santana, one of their two shortstop prospects in Brandon Wood or Erick Aybar, and either a young arm like Nick Adenhart or a big-league-ready catcher like Jeff Mathis?

Yeah the Angels are going to trade two of their best prospects and a good young pitcher for one year of Big Z. That's a terrible article.

Obviously you are not a student of recent baseball history to make such a sweepingly inaccurate statement. Examples include, but are not limited to:

1) Bagwell for Larry Anderson;

2) Smoltz for Doyle Alexander;

3) Randy Johnson to Hou (for less than one season) for Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen and someone else who I cannot recall at this moment;

4) Former Cubs luminary Heathcliff Slocumb for Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe.

Anyone wish to add to the above?

You can take Doyle Alexander off the list. He pitched a couple of years for the Tigers.

Heathcliff was resigned for the next year too but was traded.

However, I think a team like the Angles *might* trade those guys for a shot at big Z. He's young enough to be productive for a long time, if he can stay healthy.

Bartolo Colon for Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, and Brandon Phillips

Richie Sexson for Lyle Overbay, Chris Capuano, Junior Spivey, Craig Counsell, Jorge DeLaRosa, and Chad Moeller.

True and true, but part of my point is that historically teams have been willing to part with much value in exchange for middling pitchers or less-than-one-year rentals, depending on the mkt. The mkt for a pitcher like Z, IMO, would be quite good.

except the angels need bats, not arms and none of those included two top 25 prospects...

First, I don't think anyone in baseball doesn't need a starting pitcher with Z's track record, and second - assuming that the Halos do not want him - I should think the Yanks and Mets both would.
