We had a discussion on the "I'm sorry I bet on baseball" signed baseballs but I'd rather not look for it.

In any case, I'm reading through the new Beckett and there's an article on some new baseballs signed by Pete Rose. Last month, Pete signed two baseballs with the inscription of "I'm sorry I shot J.F.K." at a private signing for Universal Rarities. Apparently the signed baseballs stem from a discussion with David Letterman on the gambling subject and Pete said, "Next thing they would be saying is that I shot J.F.K."

The first of the two baseballs sold for $611

I checked his site when all of the "sorry" baseballs became big news. I'm wanting to say that you could pretty much get any inscription you were looking for.

This is amusing and kinda depressing at the same time.

I don't believe that Pete Rose is enjoying his life much anymore, is he?

Does he really deserve it?

So I might could get him to sign one, "I'm a complete ass, Pete Rose"?

Pete Rose

I'm a complete ass

HOF '08

How about:

I bet on the Cubs in '84, Dammit!

"I'm sorry for being sorry"

That would be the best. He really is a sorry sad pathetic man. Seriously, his life is that tough because he's not in the Hall of Fame? He's getting more attention, and more money, than he'd get if he made it through on the first shot. He's such a whiny creap. I can't believe so many people still hold him in such high esteem. Geez, he was a good baseball player that stayed in the game for an extremely long time, but other than that he's basically proven over and over to be a complete jerk.

Have you seen his site? It's pathetic looking at all of the ways that he's trying to make money off his name.

No, I actually try to avoid Pete Rose whenever possible, just like I try to avoid discussions about HOF worthiness, All Star voting/snubs and Barry Bonds. My baseball related thoughts typically revolve around the Cubs, and what they can do to get better.

"I'm sorry about that whole wrestling thing."

I thought that was actually the least phony thing Pete's said or done since he got banned.

I always got the impression that Pete Rose is dumb as a box of rocks.

I don't know if I would call him dumb, but he is certianly uneducated. He's a product of his environment (like everyone else). He grew up in Cinncinatti with a father that gambled on a daily basis. Played baseball in his home town and was idolized by just about everyone during the "big red machine's" run. Everyone in Cinncinatti looked the other way when in came to Pete. Now he's paying the price for it. I bet he really can't understand what is going on and feels like the victim in all this. Maybe he is somewhat, but he brought all the scorne on himself. At some point he needs to realize that he is the problem, not baseball.
