Z is Venezuelan. I think Chavez had a talk with him over the winter about "sticking it to the capitalist pigs" and that's why Carlos is playing hardball. :D

Sticking it to them by behaving like one? ;)

At least Lou is intionally funny. He's growing on me.

“I don’t think so,” Piniella said. “It’s business. I’m sure he’ll be in here tonight. In fact, he called and said he was going to be in about 8 o’clock. I was wondering if I was supposed to pick him up at the airport.

You don't miss things like "It's the presses fault that he's not here early and I remember when Aaron once told me......"

Plus, Will Carroll's system rates Z as a high injury risk this year. Again, maybe Z really is some mythical creature who will manage to beat the prediction, but we should all begin mentally preparing for Carlos to spend some time on the DL this year.

I'd do Weaver and Wood for Z in a second.

Will Carroll's system probably has rated Z as a high injury risk for the past three years.

This is true. It's too bad the Cubs couldn't have attempted to lighten up Carlos' usage to get him off that list last year. I suppose the same could be said about 2005 when Dusty did everything in his power to try to salvage a .500 season.

Yeah Dusty's pride help screw up what could have been a decent run.

Hate to break it to you, but there are deadlines and behind closed doors negotiations in the business world. You getting upset because Hendry doesn't publicly lay out his plan is almost laughable.

Sorry to do this to you, but....

You're talking to me like I was just born yesterday. I've been watching baseball regularly since 1971. This was before free agency became what it is. I didn't like free agency then, and I still don't like it now.

But, I really don't need you talking down to me. You have a difference of opinion? Fine. I'm cool with that. Disagree if you want. But please refrain from the "holier than thou" routine. It adds nothing to the debate.

And actually, if you stayed away from the Aramis thread because of the same reactions you're seeing here, why are you even bothering with this thread?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be an ass. I can be cranky in the mornings. My apologies.

Anyways, my point was basically just that at the end of the day, what's being said (or not being said) in the media doesn't mean a whole lot. I don't freak out based on public comments during a negotiation.

Don Francisco's Vanilla Nut Coffee. That stuff will fix you right up in the morning. I'd never leave the house without it.

I do overreact on some things. Last minute deadline deals are one of them. I guess it's because I don't understand why it has to come down to the last minute. I know Hendry isn't a mindreader, and he shouldn't have been able to guess that the market would have exploded like it did, but he's had all that money burning a hole in his pocket since the end of the offseason, and I don't understand why Zambrano isn't locked up already. To me, that took precedence over signing DeRosa, Floyd, Marquis and even Lilly.

I did the same thing in the Aramis thread. I was one of those people who overreacted. But, I would have been livid if Hendry didn't work a deal with him.

Old fart.
That comment reminds me of the cubs.com days (before it went downhill) when Ernie59 and ZipDog kept going back and forth about age.

I miss those guys. I wonder if ernie went to the convention and saw his buddy Grace there?

I'd forgotten about his rants about Grace. I believe it was because Grace was rude to Ernie's grandson when he asked for an autograph. Then there was also the way he always referred to Augie Ojeda as the toy ballplayer.
