I don't think Rowell can be traded. Isn't there a rule that says you cannot trade a draftee for one whole calender year after signing? I doubt they trade Rowell anyways, but he is one of my favorite prospects.

 

I'm pretty sure they could make him a PTBNL, though they might have closed that loophole in the latest CBA.

I'm not saying Dusty didn't abuse pitchers, but to trade arguably your team MVP based on a maybe seems like a terrible, terrible idea

 

Maddux didn't have chronic back problems stemming from weight that he couldn't keep off as the season went on so early in his career, either. Greg also wasn't put through the endurance test like Z has under Dusty.

Maddux didn't get abused because he was a vet and his limits were known.

Dusty viewed younger pitchers as a blank slate that he could do with as he pleased. Zambrano very easily might see the problems of that very soon.

 

True, but technically, Madux was abused as a youngster as well, including a 160+ pitch outing in the major leagues. However, he was not a power pitcher, so the comparison between him and Z is not a great comparison IMO. I don't see that Z is a huge risk to break down, but each pitcher about his age has a decent chance of breaking down, and he does have some warning signs attached to him.

lets give them guzman, marshall, itzuris and any pitcher not named z or prior for tejada. i dont see how benson getting hurt can net us bedard, but throw enough quantity at them and see if they bite.

From what I'm reading, the trade Z talk is coming from the assumption that he's ripe for injury.

 

One doesn't need to rely on Z's emotion to grade him a top pitcher. His ERA+ of well over 100 for 5 years running is very convincing. Especially when you stack it up against Zito's.

Z should be payed a lot of money becuase he's a good pitcher not becuase he can fire up a crowd with his fist pump.

 

I think the Cubs will get a deal done. Hendry hasn't put out anything to the press to lead me to believe otherwise.

As a perveyor of good pitching I agree, but for MLB it is marketing. chicks dig the homerun ball (remember that saying) pitching is not exciting, but a team that can have a pitcher that is great and emotoional like Z can draw or maybe keep fans that are on the border line of wether they like the sport or not. He makes it fun to watch.
